When it comes to family transportation, it's hard to beat a minivan for moving your brood and its stuff. And among minivans, the Sienna is a rational choice. Its long list of strong suits include a comfortable ride and an energetic powertrain that returns respectable fuel economy: The front-wheel-drive version we tested returned 21 mpg. Those looking for an all-wheel-drive will find that the Sienna is the only game in town.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2019 Toyota Sienna owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Display screen freezes up

"It has a inboard system that sync's with smart phone. This was a cheap way for not putting in a gps and global radio system"

Anonymous, TX (2019 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)
Display screen goes blank

"Had to buy a new mobile phone for the blue tooth to connect"

Anonymous, TX (2019 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

Anonymous, (2019 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Had to buy a new mobile phone so the blue tooth would work on both items"

Anonymous, TX (2019 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)

"Inconsistent in accuracy to get you to destination. So far Toyota has not fixed."

Anonymous, SC (2019 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

"One rear jack was not operable for headset. Local dealer wanted to tear car apart. Settlement was to give me another wireless headset."

Anonymous, SC (2019 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

Fuel System

Check engine light, sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor), emission control devices (includes EGR), engine computer, engine computer, fuel cap, fuel gauge/sender, fuel injection system, fuel pump, fuel leaks, stalling or hesitation.

What Owners Say

Fuel pump

"The fuel pump was the subject of a recall. It may fail while driving."

Anonymous, (2019 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)

"There is a recall on thousands Toyota/Lexus products and the remedy is to replace the fuel pump, as it can fail and possibly cause a crash and possible injuries (or death). The NHTSA recall number is 20V-012. I'm guessing due to the pandemic and auto parts production, etc., it will be quite sometime before the recall can be remedied. I'm afraid to drive this vehicle due to the possibility it could stall during driving at highway speeds. Toyota has offered a loaner vehicle, but not a comparable vehicle, which is NOT acceptable. I purchased the Sienna van because I needed a van. They have only offered a small sedan as a loaner. This does not work for me at all. Toyota simply states that is all they have for a loaner. I don't believe this is true. VERY poor customer service. I purchased this vehicle new, and Toyota has not, as yet, even offered to extend the warranty. I'm very disappointed as a longtime Toyota customer."

Anonymous, OR (2019 Toyota Sienna SE 3.5-L V6)

"Toyota issued a recall for the fuel pump but due to the virus shutdowns it has not been addressed yet."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Toyota Sienna SE 3.5-L V6)

"A recall on this type of fuel pump has been issued and there are no replacements in the country. Toyota has given me a loaner until the car is repaired. Maybe a month or more!"

Anonymous, GA (2019 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

"Van was towed twice - dealers could not find codes for any problems. There was a recall for the fuel pump, but the improved pump was unavailable. Finally got the upgraded yesterday. Hoping for the best. Van does seem to drive better."

Anonymous, CO (2019 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, leaks.

What Owners Say

Catalytic converter

"The digital speedometer display and cruise control stopped working. The problem became intermittent from time to time. The dealer diagnostics determined the catalytic converter was the problem. It was replaced under the guarantee and the problem was solved. The vehicle has approximately 3,000 miles on when the problem occurred."

Anonymous, VA (2019 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Squeaks or rattles

"get a rattle from the rear seats which is very annoying, cant locate the exact cause"

Anonymous, NY (2019 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

Body Hardware

Power or manual windows, locks and latches, tailgate, hatch or trunk, doors or sliding doors, mirrors, seat controls, safety belts, sunroof, convertible top.

Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

What Owners Say

Tire wear is uneven

"May have been alignment problem, or maybe just getting stuck going up a mountain road."

Anonymous, OH (2019 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)

Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

What Owners Say

Loose interior trim or moldings

"The carpeting inside the drivers side began to wear very rapidly and Toyota would not repair it because they did not feel it was their problem."

Anonymous, (2019 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

What Owners Say

Rough shifting

"The shifting is very rough especially in the lower speeds. It is the worst on the downshifts. After having a 2013 Toyota Sienna with a 6 speed which was very smooth, this is a big disapointment."

Anonymous, MI (2019 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)
