    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2023 Toyota Sienna owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"Occurred during trans Canada road trip. Unable to connect iPhones likely due to lack of nearby cell towers and/or phone carrier inadequacy. Works fine as long as you stay in urban/suburban areas only."

Anonymous, OR (2023 Toyota Sienna XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"The Toyota Nav system gives wrong directions at times ie tells you to take an exit off Hwy only to tell you to get back onto Hwy at next entrance ramp. It often recommends routes that are not the shortest nor the fastest, in fact in many cases their route is 100-200 miles out of the way."

Anonymous A., NM (2023 Toyota Sienna XSE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"The Qi wireless charger is incredibly sensitive to device placement. This happens on multiple iPhones, regardless of the presence of a case. The charger operates as described in the vehicle manual, but it seems very difficult to maintain the correct device position while driving to avoid the three flashing orange light device/charger position not aligned failure. This is not a major concern since I use third-party QuadLock chargers and cases. Note that the sensitivity persists even with the third-party case removed from the iPhone. Also, because this van only operates with wired CarPlay/Android Auto, in the factory state the wireless charging pad isnt really necessary since the phone will be plugged in for CarPlay/Android Auto. I do, however, have a wireless CarPlay adapter, so the charging pad would have been useful had it not been for the aforementioned third-party devices. I am not sure if this sensitivity is unique to my vehicle or a characteristic of the design from Toyota. I have not sought correction from the dealer."

Anonymous A., GA (2023 Toyota Sienna Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"The Sienna often trys to pair with a phone in the car that is NOT requesting to pair but it wont pair with my phone even though it is the only phone authorized for Bluetooth connection."

Anonymous A., NM (2023 Toyota Sienna XSE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    Keyless entry

"After ten months of ownership, the key fob battery died. I got the second one out that was only five months old ( had to wait for it) and then it Died too! We only received one mechanical key with the car which is annoying as we could not get in without it and the fob battery was suddenly so low, it would not speak to the ignition."

Anonymous, BC (2023 Toyota Sienna XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Paint chip on hood from rock hit. Not simple to order touch-up paint online for a reasonable price."

Anonymous, ON (2023 Toyota Sienna XSE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    Automatic climate control

"Takes a lot of time to cool off after starting"

Anonymous, ON (2023 Toyota Sienna XSE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Body Hardware

Windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls (power or manual), seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect.

    What Owners Say

    Other body problem

"One of the bolts attaching the seat to the frame was rubbing on the rail and required some welding and filing by the dealership. The rubbing made an awful constant squeaking sound until it was fixed."

Anonymous A., OH (2023 Toyota Sienna Platinum 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other minor engine problem

"After being driven multiple times in very cold weather the van warned engine issues and hybrid failure. Said to stop driving and get to dealer. Service dept said it is a fault of the engine not heating up and condensation building up in the oil. Changed the oil and away it went still has hybrid failure issues even after they cleared the codes apparently. Ongoing. The trick apparently is you need to drive the vehicle for at least 20 minutes at high way speeds or without the electric kicking in so it can warmup enough to remove the moisture. However for people purchasing to save gas and the environment its not great"

Anonymous, ON (2023 Toyota Sienna XSE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
