Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2023 Toyota Sienna owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

What Owners Say

12V battery

""The car was not driven often. The battery died- requiring a jump start. The tow driver used the bolt on the electronic control module as the grounding point for the jump. this fried, the ECM, resulting in an expensive repair and replacement of the electronic control module. the car was under warranty, and the tow driver was sent by Toyota. The dealership who sent the tow driver took no responsibility for the damage or the repair. I had to file a claim with the tow company to get the part replaced. in talking to the dealership, they let me know that this was a common problem with hybrid Toyota vehicles Because of the placement of the ECM in proximity to the positive charging port under the hood. I was told it is a recurring problem with hybrid owners, and it is apparently a design flaw with the Toyota hybrids.""

Keyless entry

"Battery in both keys died within a year in same week"

Anonymous A., BC (2023 Toyota Sienna XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
Other electrical system problem

"This problem is related to a completely drained and dead 12 volt battery. The car cant be locked- i worried about being trapped in the vehicle- with no power to unlock doors- i love a lot of the new technology on cars today- but there was a lot to love on my 2005 Toyota Sienna- and a lot more cargo storage"

Anonymous, NC (2023 Toyota Sienna Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
Wiper motor or washer

"The wipers began getting slower and then only worked intermittently. Toyota confirmed the motor was going bad and replaced the windshield wiper motor. Began summer of 2024 amd fixed fall of 2024."

Anonymous, PA (2023 Toyota Sienna XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

What Owners Say

Display screen freezes up

"Can not change radio channels when car is moving"

Anonymous, CA (2023 Toyota Sienna LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Nav system provides VERY inaccurate travel directions for both short and long trips; often it tells you to get off the Interstate at an exit and then directs you to get back on at the very next entrance ramp. It has tried to route us 50-100 miles out of our way and makes no difference if set to shortest or fastest route. Toyota dealer claims there is nothing wrong because there are no updates available from the factory. Its now out of warranty and we quit using the nav system long ago."

Anonymous, NM (2023 Toyota Sienna XSE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
Other in-car electronics problem

"The rear door would not open by any means. Dealer replaced the electronics at the latch."

Anonymous, NJ (2023 Toyota Sienna Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"The performance of the 2023 Sienna's bluetooth connection is noticeably worse than with the 2018 Rav4. All I need the bluetooth connection for is just to play music from my phone. I do not need a smart connection, I will never want to sync contacts. I do not want CarPlay forced on me that sucks up my personal information and forwards it to perverts at Toyota or any number of data collectors. All I want is to treat my car like a speaker. That is it. No internet connection needed. The Sienna's infotainment system reliably messes with the bluetooth connection to offer unneeded and unwanted services, displays it in a worse way than the 2018 Rav4 did, and has a less responsive display in general. I hate, hate, hate the new Toyota infotainment systems."
