2027 Volvo EX60 EV Aims for Range, Safety, and Luxury
We hope the new two-row model will have a smoother launch than the EX30 and EX90.Overview
Volvo’s rebirth as a technology-first, all-electric automaker continues with the debut of the EX60. This two-row luxury SUV promises a range of up to 400 miles, a price around $60,000, and new safety features that aren’t yet available on any other vehicle. A Cross Country version adds a tiny bit more ground clearance and a more rugged look.
As far as current Volvo vehicles go, the EX60 is most alike in size, appearance, and price to the XC60, which is available with gas-only and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
But despite those superficial similarities, the EX60 shares almost nothing with the current XC60, and very little with other Volvo models. It’s based on an all-new design and software, and it’s also the first Volvo to be built using megacasting, which uses large aluminum parts instead of welding smaller ones together. It’s a process that was first widely used by Tesla.
Technological advancements include an updated in-car computer, a Google Gemini-based AI voice recognition system, and a seat belt that can adapt to different body types and crash severities. It’s also the first Volvo to come standard with a Tesla-style NACS charging port, and the automaker says it can add up to 173 miles of range during a 10-minute stop at a 400kW public DC fast charger.
We plan to purchase an EX60 for our auto test program as soon as it goes on sale later this year. In the meantime, here’s what we know so far about the latest electric Volvo.
It competes with the Audi Q6 E-Tron, BMW iX, Cadillac Lyriq, Genesis Electrified GV70, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, and Polestar 3.
There are three powertrains:
- 369-hp electric motor, 83 kWh battery, rear-wheel drive (P6)
- 503-hp dual electric motors, 95 kWh battery, all-wheel drive (P10 AWD)
- 671-hp dual electric motors, 117-kWh battery, all-wheel drive (P12 AWD)
The estimated price range is $55,000-$75,000. It goes on sale April 2026.
The final assembly point is Gothenburg, Sweden.
