Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Once the icon of restrained luxury and bank-vault safety, the Swedish automaker Volvo fell on tough times, seeing sales slump because of an aging, uninspiring model line. Now flush with an $11 billion cash infusion from its Chinese owner, Geely, Volvo's XC90 flagship SUV represents a make-or-break moment, its executives admit. The XC90 could be the vehicle that wins back those who walked away and attracts those who never thought they would find a Volvo in their garage.

When automakers say that a car is "all new," they're usually fibbing. It can mean just a nip and tuck of sheet metal or some refined interior-trim pieces.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2016 Volvo XC90 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"The BLIS lane change monitoring system was working intermittently. It was fixed with a software update but we were inconvenienced and frustrated that it happened on a car that was only a couple of months old"

James M., SD (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Rear facing camera gave fuzzy picture. Fixed eventually"

Anonymous, WA (2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-in 2.0-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid )

"When I back out of my garage during the day when it's sunny, unless I stop for about 5 seconds with car just at garage exit, the backup camera doesn't adjust for brightness of outside. Result is that for the rest of the drive, the screen will be at low brightness and content is not visible."

Anonymous, (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Display screen difficult to see

"Reflections make the screen difficult to read in bright sunlight"

Anonymous, TX (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Using the rear view camera at night is much darker than it should be and the service technicians recognize that as a problem"

Bill A., MD (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Display screen freezes up

"Adaptive cruise control switches off and is “unavailable “."

Anonymous, MA (2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-in 2.0-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

"Screen used to go blank but this was corrected with a software upgrade. Sometimes the screen still freezes, also, but it is uncommon now."

Mary H., PA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"many software glitches likely due to it being the first model year of the new xc90"

Anonymous, NH (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The computer is extremely slow and non responsive. Errors are routine (freeze, GPS, emergency stops, engine start failure, etc.) Most of it was fixed after many days at the dealership and many software updates."

Anonymous, MI (2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-in 2.0-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

"Had to be reloaded"

Anonymous, FL (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Intermittently the display screen will not start up or lag when starting the car. So changing the station or waiting for the rear camera view to show up might take up to 10 seconds"

Bill A., MD (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"When new, Sensus Touch system would periodically freeze up, then spontaneously reboot. The car would operate fine otherwise, but I would lose navigation, entertainment, HVAC controls, etc. After 3 minutes or so, it would be operational again. This was fixed by an update at the dealer. Since then, the Sensus Touch system has operated flawlessly"

Charles S., TX (2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-in 2.0-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid )

"Display screen does not always operate. Sometimes it restarts. Sometimes I'm unable to click on the menu to adjust heat/ax due to the icon not functioning. This has improved after a software update but is very annoying"

Anonymous, MO (2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-in 2.0-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid )

"Software updates or restarting the car seem to fix the issue"

Dhawal K., NM (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Display screen goes blank

"After a software update, the system would reboot without announcement. The entire system, including gauges, would go black for a few minutes."

Jack A., CA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"From week 2 of new ownership, the sensus screen has had issues with going blank/rebooting. This causes ALL SAFETY features of the car to stop working during the reboot process. This negates the purpose we bought the car, which was primarily due to safety"

Jeff C., SC (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Sometimes the screen would randomly go blank! Also it takes a long time to load all the apps"

Bill W., GA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Driver instrumentation went blank and car would not go faster than 20 mph. Had to be towed to Volvo. Found the car to be in "Transport Mode" and required a software update"

Anonymous, SC (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Screen went blank while drive and rebooted itself. Problem fixed at dealership with computer upgrade at no cost"

Jeffrey R., OH (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"About once a week, the car's electronics freeze and the system reboots. We lose the dash cluster and all electronic controls for about 3 minutes because everything has gone black. We have to wait another 3 minutes for the NAV system to come back online. All in all, the scariest is losing control of the cruise control system"

Jack A., CA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"after screen goes blank, it is necessary to unplug the battery then reconnect battery to reset the electronics"

Louis D., PA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"This winter the the display screen went blank, so we could not control heat, sound and none of the sensors or systems worked. The car had to be towed to 200 miles to Omaha for a software update to fix the system. Volvo covered all of the cost to take the car in for service and to return it to us. Our only real problem was the inconvenience. We were without the car to 4 days"

James M., SD (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Two times last summer the central control panel for all of the HVAC controls as well as the radio went blank and restarted. The first time it simply rebooted on it's own after about two minutes, the second time it repeatedly cycled on and off. Cycling the key eventually got it to cease cycling. A trip to the dealership threatened that a spilled beverage could be the culprit (but not from my wife) and that would not be covered under warranty (even though the vehicle is still under warranty). It has not occurred again since the second time."

Anonymous, TN (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Randomly goes blank. AC also randomly stops working. Also now randomly stalling at intersections. Dealer cannot find problem."

Anonymous, MI (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Very limited database, doesn’t know address, businesses, even zip codes. When it does know an address it can only be recognized if I putted in a specific format (eg. doesn’t understand W. 14 St., must be West 14th Street). I’m in NY, if I put in COSTCO none in NY come up, only in Texas!"

A G., NY (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"more software problems that caused the gps to malfunction until we brought it to the dealer"

Anonymous, NH (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Showed vehicle in wrong location (by about 30 miles) Was corrected after update."

Anonymous, MD (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"It did not have the car in the correct part of town"

Anonymous, IN (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The nav system is terrible. It can't find most addresses. It sometimes sends us the wrong way or chooses non-direct routes"

Anonymous, TX (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Froze up and would not respond also showed wrong location"

John L., NV (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Traffic information is simply incorrect. A road we're traveling will show as red when we're the only car on it. A freeway will show as green when we are bumper to bumper traffic. My guess is it's the traffic info provider or a serious delay in the Volvo receiving information"

Jack A., CA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The system had my location off by hundreds of miles. Dealer fixed it under Warranty"

Anonymous, NY (2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-in 2.0-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid )

"Feckless ...The only voice command that it consistently responds to correctly is the word.....CANCEL. And.... in fairness..."TAKE ME HOME""

Gayle E., TN (2016 Volvo XC90 T5 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The navigation system goes haywire...thinks I'm somewhere I'm not, hence can't give accurate directions. The first time it happened, a Volvo dealer fixed it. The second time, the closest dealer is two hours away. (I haven't moved.) I've called several professionals who work on foreign cars, only one said he could try to fix it. He tried, but couldn't. Two Volvo dealers that were within 75 miles of my house, including the one where I bought the car, have given up the franchise in the past year. That leaves me with no practical option to have dealer-only problems repaired. They say it was because they didn't sell enough cars, but I see plenty of XC-90s in my immediate vicinity."

Anonymous, PA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"After going through the Baltimore tunnel, the GPS system “forgot” where it was and had to be recalibrated/reloaded by the dealer. Was surprised that there is no way for the user to recalibrate."

Anonymous, DE (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"stops working completely at times. Self fixes after 2-3 days. Voice recognition is non existent. After 3 years still gets all commands wrong. System is unbelievably slow."

Anonymous, NY (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Works intermittently. When it connects works great but 50% of the time doesn’t connect."

A G., NY (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"They had a lot of trouble getting phone to repair"

Anonymous, ON (2016 Volvo XC90 T5 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"sometimes it pairs, sometimes it does not. No rhyme or reason."

Anonymous, NY (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Routine software updates

"Some annoying minor problems that were overcome with software upgrades"

J R., FL (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Software update fixes

"The Nexus System in the Volvo is pretty well thought out, but is buggy. The car is sold with the statement that all software updates are free for the life of the car. The reality is my dealer is unwilling to do a software update unless they can bill Volvo warranty. And they can only bill Volvo warranty if they can justify the update as it relates to a known service bulletin. Software updates have fixed almost every annoyance my car's system presented, but Volvo has reneged on yet another service point."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"2 or 3 times the car would not start because of software problems. It started later when we came back and tried again."

Anonymous, GA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"There is always a software update for this car. I have had an update done and as driving out of the dealership get a notice that an update is available. The dealership has had trouble downloading the updates and my car has had to stay in the shop overnight."

Nancy S., MT (2016 Volvo XC90 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Steering wheel controls

"Had a faulty control button on the steering wheel. It would work intermittently. Took several visits to get it replaced. Works perfectly now"

Anonymous, KY (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Voice control commands

"Voice control for navigation and other systems would not work properly. Volvo had to replace the software"

David S., CT (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Very poor design. It simply does not work. For a $70,000 luxury vehicle wannabe the voice recognition feature is useless. Far less expensive car/SUV brands work so much better, spoiling the ride experience that would otherwise be quite positive. This was my first Volvo. I have owned various luxury brands in the past. (in my 60's). I will never get another Volvo due to this experience. (And yes I have an iPhone...with CarPlay/SIRI installed... but this should not be an excuse for Volvo to"

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"Leaks from the rear view mirror into the car in a big rain storm"

Anonymous, IL (2016 Volvo XC90 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Roof leak that came through sunroof housing. Pulled up to a stop and water came pouring out of the rearview mirror housing. Sunroof seals were replaced needing for the entire sunroof to be removed. On the drive home noticed the powered sunroof cover would not close all the way. Back at the dealership, they had found motors/cables for the sunroof cover had corroded/failed as the leak was going on for a while"

Anonymous, CA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Air conditioning system was leaking lots of water into the aft passenger compartment. Vehicle was down for service for 3 months"

Anonymous, SC (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Significant water intrusion. Unsolved after 30 days. Volvo purchased vehicle back due to issue. We purchased another one which we've not had the issue with"

"windshield seal leaks inside during heavy rain"

Anonymous, (2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-in 2.0-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

"water leaked in from drain tubes that we were unaware of. apparently there are drains from the roof that when they get clogged cause water to enter the car on the floor of the drivers side, going through the electronic systems, which cost us more than $8000 to fix. this obviously seems to be a design flaw, yet volvo would not admit to any wrong in this."

Anonymous, NY (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Water on the floor of the cargo are was traced to a failure in the sunroof drain system. Repaired under warranty by the local dealer."

Anonymous, KY (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Seals and/or weather-stripping

"The dealer had to replace the ENTIRE front part of the sunroof because the stripping fell off -- and water came in. They claim the hot weather in Florida caused glue to melt -- which made the stripping fall down. They could not just replace the stripping -- it all comes in a full kit. The SUV -- when going through a car wash -- still has A LOT of air plunging in -- when it's being dried and it comes right through the sunroof. BUT -- the stripping is solid and it doesn't leak -- so that is a plus"

Eric S., FL (2016 Volvo XC90 T5 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"There was some water coming in during heavy rain. Drain seals for the sunroof needed to be replaced, and did resolve the issue"

Anonymous, RI (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"When it rain or snows and the ice melts the rear doors collect water between the door frame and the car frame. When you open the door for the very first time after either weather event the water splashes onto the ground."

Anonymous, (2016 Volvo XC90 T5 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Electric Sunroof refused to close all the way and they thought it was just mis-celebrated but it needed to be torn out and a new track put in. Major repair that took a week."

Phil-Laura O., CA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Squeaks or rattles

"Rattle in rear seat. Dealer installed some sort of kit to fix. Did not correct problem"

Anonymous, MD (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The rattles come from the middle row seating (I only have one row in my T5. The rattle started in the middle seat of that row.. now it's in the side seating, too. They've tried to fix with lubricant. It started rattling a week later. They cannot figure out what it is. Also there is a rattle on the back hatch. They tried tweaking the rubber tabs - but to no avail. It sounds like the hatch will fall off over rough roads. The dealer cannot fix either of them"

Eric S., FL (2016 Volvo XC90 T5 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Took a couple of tries to isolate a squeak"

Anonymous, MO (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Anonymous, (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Vehicle required an entire engine replacement and seemed to be on the lift for two weeks straight. This appears to have caused issues with the lubrication of the chassis apparently and the car was making lurching noises until this was addressed."

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Antilock system (ABS)

"The vehicle was applying brakes on one side of the vehicle at times and creating sensation that is was swerving out of the lane"

Anonymous, CT (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Master cylinder

"Brakes went out during in town driving. About 500 miles out of warranty. Dealership split cost."

Anonymous, (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Normal routine brake wear

"To me worn out brakes at 40,000 mi seems way too early, especially considering the miles were mostly highway miles. Dealer says that it's typical, i.e. not unusual. Had to take car back twice to deal with software/camera/cruise controls, etc"

Anonymous, WA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Premature brake wear

"Rear driver side pads failed. It appeared, at first, to be a stuck caliper. The full brakes and rotors were replaced on both rear wheels. We are waiting to see if it happens again to determine if its a bad caliper."

Jack A., CA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"There is a burning smell from the rear when the vehicle goes up inclines, most often a friend's driveway. This caused the rear brakes to completely wear out at about 20k miles. They were replaced by the dealer, but it still occasionally has the burning smell. The parking brakes are electronic, so that couldn't be stuck on."

Nate M., PA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Premature rear brake wear. Pad completely gone at 30000 miles."

Stephen W., OH (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The brakes have been replaced already within the first 12 months of ownership"

Anonymous, VA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"I am on my 3rd set of brake pads. Less than 25,000 miles on the first two sets of pads."

Anonymous, AE (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Brakes squeak all the time at slow speeds"

Anonymous, VA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The rear disc brakes wear out faster than the front and both front and rear get only about 15,000 miles of use. I have 49,000 miles on my car and the front and rear brake pads and rotors have been replaced 4 times. The factory service intervals are 10,000 miles. Dealer brake pad measurements have been unreliable and untrustworthy. All four times, the brakes started grinding between service intervals. While the dealership has gotten Volvo to pay for all of these full brake jobs under warranty, the reality is the car is too heavy for the extra soft pads they use to avoid squealing. It is impractical to keep this 2016 Volvo XC90 as a daily driver in Southern California. If I replace the brake pads during a factory service interval, I'd have to do it every 10,000 miles. If I try to squeeze the pad use, I'd be taking the car in every 5,000 miles and half that time only for a brake pad check. The Volvo loaner car program has not evolved into the experience it was touted to be. A complimentary loaner car requires a three-week out reservation."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Needed multiple brake pad and rotor replacements all OEM due to significant early wear and tear evry 20000 miles of use."

Anonymous, TX (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Pulsation or vibration

"The front rotors (both OEM as well as aftermarket) warp with very little normal use let alone during an emergency braking situation."

Anonymous, TN (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Rotors

"Rear brakes wore out at 30k miles, rotors not covered by warrantee cost $725 to repair."

Thomas S., DE (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"all 4 rotors replaced 3 times under 36000 due to pulsation"

Stephen W., OH (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Automatic climate control

"Temperature sensor was incorrectly reading internal cabin temp lower than actual by 10-20 degrees, resulting in the AC not turning on. This happened during the summer and for two consecutive summers."

Anonymous, MA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Periodically, the automatic climate control stops working and will just operate at one fan speed, either off or on, regardless of internal temperature. We have brought the car in several times to correct this problem."

Anonymous, MA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"When new, the ambient temperature sensor was indicating an outdoor temperature below freezing, despite the fact it was nearly 90F outside (central Texas). This caused the automatic HVAC system to blow hot air. As this system is fully automatic, there was no way to force it to provide cool, conditioned air. The dealer service rep indicated they were having issues with the sensor mounted in the passenger side mirror housing. It was replaced and hasn't given trouble since"

Charles S., TX (2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-in 2.0-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid )

"Doesn't seem to work or make any negligible changes to blower or ac system"

Anonymous, OR (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The ambient temperature reading was inaccurate soon after purchase (about 5k miles) - read either extremely high or low causing ac to operate in reverse of actual conditions. In other words, it ran heat in summer and ac in winter. This is a real problem in the south during summer. After several times to the shop, replacement of the thermocouple several times, and several computer updates, it was fixed."

Anonymous, (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Blower (fan) motor

Other/unsure

"A few times in the first year, the front automatic emergency braking engaged when there was no need to do so (e.g., simultaneous curve/hill that the camera mistook as a hazard). By suddenly braking automatically, however, the car put me in danger of being rear ended. The problem was resolved with a software upgrade and has not happened since."

Mary H., PA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Cruise control, including lane control, etc. failed repeatedly after driving ~10 min. Had to take it in twice before regional tech support recommended that the front facing camera may be at fault, which turned out to be the case."

Anonymous, WA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"After leaving the car wash my sensor came on for the front right bumper. Said sensor needed cleaning and would alarm. The alarm became more frequent. Took to the dealership and was told the sensor had fallen out of place. Went to the car wash again and the same thing happened. Called the dealership and was told to clean the sensor. Had to convince the representative that it needed to be looked at. Occurred again and this time Volvo had a recall on the sensors and parts were sent to hold the sensor in place."

James M., SD (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The air ride was a very nice option at first, but it went out all of a sudden. This caused it to be very unstable and nearly drag on the ground. This had to be driven to the dealer, where it stayed for 2-3 weeks while the part was manufactured and sent from the Volvo headquarters."

Nate M., PA (2016 Volvo XC90 T6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"air springs were defective on delivery. However, dealer replaced all 4 without a hassel."

Tire wear is uneven

"Pirelli Scorpions were OEM tires. They were the noisiest tires in the history of tires from 3000 miles onward. Couldn't hear the radio in the car over the tire noise. And they scalloped and feathered from day one. Dealer refused to address or exchange. Wretched experience."

Anonymous, VA (2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-in 2.0-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid )

"On almost a dozen occasions I have had the entire electrical system go "blank". I was on a freeway the first time it happened and the entire car turned completely off. Air, power, electronics, everything. It turned itself back on and then immediately went off again. It also happens if I pull up to my mailbox. If I open the door, the car shuts off completely, but it doesn't do it every time or in any consistent manner. We have had extensive issues with this vehicle that was bought new in June 20"

Anonymous, TX (2016 Volvo XC90 T6)

"While driving the car lost all power and acceleration. A warning sign came on to say pull over. I was able to do so. The car would not operate after that. The dealership had the car towed in. A component had to be ordered and replaced"

Anonymous, CA (2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-in 2.0-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

"Problem started around 90k. Oil light came on prior to scheduled service. This was the first occurrence of this. Unfortunately the Volvo XC90 does not have a "dip stick" to check oil - just an electronic sensor to monitor. (not ideal) Notified dealer/service dept. of issue and we monitored for several months. Car was burning/loosing a pint+ every 1200-1500 miles. This was "out of specification" for Volvo so the engine was rebuilt. Extended warranty cover the majority of the repair."
