Packed it up to go back, right after I plugged it in! This thing is louder at it's lowest setting than the Honeywell I replaced at it's highest setting. Consumer reports might like it, but they can have it!

I decided to try to filter out as much pet dander and fur as I could in my apartment. I got two of these and one Whirlpool AP51030K. What I've realized about an air purifier is that it's really the low setting performance that matters the most, as you want to keep it on all the time without bothering you. Although the Holmes does filter very well, after about a month of use the wheel that generates the suction through the filters became rickety and I could hear the wobble. This was fixed by running it at a higher speed, but then the air becomes noisy. The Whirlpool on the other hand is quieter at any setting, and at the the low setting it really isn't noticeable, so it's on all the time. It also has much simpler and larger filters. I'm throwing out the two Holmes that I bought a year ago and replacing them with the Whirlpool. However, it does filter well.

Well, My wife and I went to one of our favorite stores recently and found this unit at a really good price ([$]), and it was HEPA, too! We decided to try one out in our home. We unpacked it in our kitchen and turned it on and within a few minutes, we felt better...no stuffy head. We triedit in a different room and felt the same effect. We went back to the store and bought two more. We sleep better and feel better after their use. As a Respiratory Therapist, I really appreciate the positive effect on our breathing. Reduced allergens, dust, pollen, and the like. A great deal too!
