About This Brand
Eureka sells a wide array of models marketed to address different needs, including pesky pet hair. Uprights typically range from $50 to $200. You'll find this national brand in a variety of discount stores and mass merchants, including Walmart, Target, and Kmart. Eureka also makes hand and stick vacuums, canister models, deep cleaners, and central vacuums. Canister models typically range from about $60 to $260 and are available through a more-targeted selection of retailers, such as Bed Bath & Beyond and Lowe's.
Bag Denotes whether the model has a disposable waste bag. A growing number of vacuums, particularly upright models, use a container that can be emptied, eliminating the bag. To capture fine-dirt particles, however, these models must use a filter (such as a HEPA filter) that can need regular cleaning, or replacement. Replacement filters tend to be significantly more expensive than bags. While vacuums with bags may also use filters, the bag acts as a pre-filter that helps to keep the fine-dirt filter cleaner, thus extending its performance until cleaning or replacement. Another caveat: Emptying the dustbin and cleaning a filter can be messy, and handling it may expose you to dust and other allergens.
Weight (lbs.) The weight of the vacuum cleaner, to the nearest pound. If you expect to carry your vacuum up and down stairs, consider a lighter vacuum (under 20 pounds).
Brush on/off An on/off switch for the rotating brush lets you stop the brush from rotating when using tools or cleaning bare floors. This helps eliminate scattered dirt on bare floors and reduces the risk of injury if the vacuum tips over during use. It also reduces the risk of damaging a carpet or the finish of a bare floor if the vacuum sits in place at the low-height setting.
Easy on/off A switch that's located on the handle or where your foot can activate it is more convenient than one on the body of the vacuum.
Manual-pile adjust Lets you adjust the height of the machine to a carpet's pile height to allow for easy movement and thorough cleaning. Adjustments are automatic on some models, but we prefer the more precise manual control afforded by some models.
I've abused the tarnation out of this vacuum and it just keeps going. I sold one house and bought another, with major cleaning at both ends. I thought, What the heck, it was a cheap vacuum and if it doesn't survive the move I already got my money's worth.
I have used it as a shop vacuum. I cleaned the entire basement (walls, floor and ceiling) to get ready to paint. I have cleaned up small amounts of liquids. I cleaned up pet mess left behind in the new house I bought. Everything you should not do with a vacuum, I did. It still works fine.
It has a lot of suction both at the hose and the floor. Others have complained about belts dying, but I still have the spare belt that originally came with the vacuum, it's never been changed. The other day I accidentally vacuumed up an entire spool of fishing line. (D'oh!) I took the roller and belt off (very easy, only three screws!), cut the fishing line off the roller, put it back together; no problems.

Folks have complained that it is heavy and I guess it might be for a small/weak/old person, but the description clearly says 20 pounds and you should be able to figure out whether or not that is too heavy for you in advance. The weight is not a secret. You do need to have some muscle to use it on stairs.
I did find that on a dense carpet you need to be careful about how you set the height adjustment. If you set it too low the vacuum will *not* move easily, but that is not the weight, that is just an easily made adjustment.

This is probably the best vacuum I have ever had.

Easy To Empty
Went through many belts. Including the one that was factory installed upon delivery. Broke 2 belts in one day. Used the vacuum for normal vacuuming on regular carpet in an average size, 1 story house. I finally returned it to Amazon today after several attempts to resolve the belt breaking issue.

Broken belt 1st day
1st day two broken belts. It was used for normal carpet. Nothing special. Looks like the belt could shift around rubbing on other internal parts causing the belt to break after 10min.
