Comment:
I have three of the machines over the past 10 years or so. I vacuum 3-4 times a week. I have not had any problems with belts, brushes or any other parts. You do have to change the bag frequently because this machine picks up the dirt.

Recently bought a Hoover Platinum, what a mistake.

The only con is this machine is heavy.

Worked good first six months then it began breaking belts. Took it to a manufacture recommended repair shop and they replaced the drive mechanism. Worked two weeks and started breaking belts again. Now, I've replaced the belt 26 times over the last 10 months. Cost of belts plus time to repair and gas to and from store equals a lousy product. Dropping off this lemon to the dump.

Comment:
I bought this vacuum based on ConsumerReports rating about 2 years ago. It has great suction but other problems would keep me from reccomending this product. Most troubling is the fact that it eats belts on a regular basis. The tensioner assembly is poorly designed and difficult to switch between carpet and floor setting. Very heavy also. The next belt that gets shredded is going to land this vacuum right out the back door and onto the trash pile. Please do not buy. I would not even recommend this one to an enemy. Yea, its that bad.
