Honda

Most Hondas have competitive fuel economy and strong resale value. Reliability, which used to be very good, has declined lately, to the point that the Civic compact car is not recommended because of its well-below-average reliability. The Honda driving experience is usually sound, though not very sporty or exciting. Ride comfort and noise isolation are not typically Honda strong suits. Two standout models are the roomy and capable Accord sedan and the Odyssey minivan. Redesigned for 2017, the CR-V small SUV performed well in our tests, and the all-new 2018 Honda Odyssey has made a strong first impression. The three-row Pilot is competitive, but not a standout among midsized SUVs. Recent models in the EX trim and up are burdened with touch-screen infotainment systems, which are frustrating and distracting to use. Honda has started using continuously variable transmissions, which have helped fuel economy but blunted any fun-to-drive character.
