Detailed Test Results
PICTURE QUALITY. This model, like all of the other models in our Ratings, had excellent high-definition picture quality when playing Blu-ray discs. It did very well with standard DVDs, displaying the best detail possible.
EASE OF USE. The remote was fairly easy to use. Its fits well in the hand and Does not follow the contour of the hands well, feels blocky, slightly light in the hand. The onscreen menu was highly intuitive and easy to use.
SPEED. The startup time was 8 seconds, typical of most models. With its quick-start feature enabled, the startup time became 2 seconds. It had a faster Blu-ray load time than many other models of around 13 seconds. The DVD load time was fast -- 8 seconds -- better than many other models. The eject time was 4 seconds, faster than many other models.
INTERNET FEATURES. At the time of testing the firmware version was BD.23958.50908.c, which included these streaming services: Vudu, Netflix, CinemaNow, Hulu plus, Amazon, Pandora, Youtube, Spotify, Rhapsody, MLB, Viewster.
CONTROLS AND CONNECTIVITY. The player is DLNA certified, so you can access digital photos, videos, and music stored on a PC, phone, tablet, or other device connected to your home network.
ABOUT FIRMWARE VERSION: Our test results are valid for the version of firmware indicated. If your Blu-ray player's firmware differs from the one shown you either have an older or a newer version of firmware. Manufacturers may periodically upgrade the Blu-ray player's firmware to enhance operation, fix bugs, or add features. Firmware upgrades are downloadable directly to your Blu-ray player via a wired or wireless network (if internet capable), USB port, or memory card, depending on your Blu-ray player's capability. You can check your Blu-ray player's firmware version, or upgrade to the latest firmware by pressing the menu button on your remote and navigating to the appropriate submenu, typically under Settings. Consult the user manual or manufacturer's website if further guidance is needed.
