Detailed Test Results
PICTURE QUALITY. This model, like all of the other models in our Ratings, had excellent picture quality when playing 4K UHD and Blu-ray discs. It did ok with standard DVDs but it did not display the best detail possible.
EASE OF USE. The optional accessory remote was fairly easy to use. Its fit to the hand is excellent for a smallish remote and Overall well balanced but no finger notch. The remote has backlit buttons but it lacks an EJECT button. However, at times the game controller remote was necessary to use for things like logging into a account.
SPEED. The startup time was 39 seconds, far slower than most models. With its quick-start feature enabled, the startup time became 4 seconds. It had a slow 4K UHD Blu-ray and typical HD Blu-ray disc load time of around 32 and 20 seconds respectively. The DVD load time was fast -- 12 seconds -- better than many other models. The eject time was 3 seconds, faster than many other models.
INTERNET FEATURES. It's an Internet-capable model with a full Web browser. At the time of testing the firmware version was 10.14393.1065, which included these streaming services: Webbrowser GB, Microsoft TV, Netflix, Amazon Video, YouTube, Crackle, Hulu, Vudu, Pandora, iHeartRadio, CinemaNow, HBO GO, SHO Anytime, Tunein, plus more.
CONTROLS AND CONNECTIVITY. The player has a lot of useful features. It has built-in WiFi for wirelessly connecting to a home network, handy if you don't have a nearby Ethernet jack. Has screen mirroring feature which conveniently shares and displays a compatible mobile devices display and content through the player to a connected TV. The player is DLNA certified, so you can access digital photos, videos, and music stored on a PC, phone, tablet, or other device connected to your home network.
ABOUT FIRMWARE VERSION: Our test results are valid for the version of firmware indicated. If your Blu-ray player's firmware differs from the one shown you either have an older or a newer version of firmware. Manufacturers may periodically upgrade the Blu-ray player's firmware to enhance operation, fix bugs, or add features. Firmware upgrades are downloadable directly to your Blu-ray player via a wired or wireless network (if internet capable), USB port, or memory card, depending on your Blu-ray player's capability. You can check your Blu-ray player's firmware version, or upgrade to the latest firmware by pressing the menu button on your remote and navigating to the appropriate submenu, typically under Settings. Consult the user manual or manufacturer's website if further guidance is needed.
