Detailed Test Results
PICTURE QUALITY. This model, like all of the other models in our Ratings, had excellent high-definition picture quality when playing Blu-ray discs. It did very well with standard DVDs, displaying the best detail possible.
EASE OF USE. We found the model to be very easy to use, overall. The console has PLAY and PAUSE buttons but not SKIP and SCAN. However, we noted that the console PLAY button doesn't work as ENTER button, so you may not be able to play some discs without the remote. The remote was fairly easy to use. Its fit to the hand is excellent and well balanced, has ridge in back for finger. It has a direct access button for Netflix. The remote has backlit buttons. The onscreen menu was highly intuitive and easy to use. Like other 3D players we have tested, it had no problem playing 3D images when used with a 3D TV and 3D glasses.
SPEED. The startup time was 10 seconds, typical of most models. With its quick-start feature enabled, the startup time became 5 seconds. It had a faster Blu-ray load time than many other models of around 14 seconds. The DVD load time was fast -- 11 seconds -- better than many other models. The eject time was 5 seconds, typical of most models.
INTERNET FEATURES. It's an Internet-capable model with a full Web browser. At the time of testing the firmware version was ver 1104, which included these streaming services: Web browser, Samsung apps (Pandora, Vudu, Facebook, Twitter Crackle MGO, YuppTV, MLB.TV, Amazon Cloud Player, Fitness, Fandango, Portico plus more app selections from its market), Netflix, Amazon instant video, YouTube, Bravo, Accuweather 2013. Has WiFi direct feature allowing for mobile devices to directly connect to the player absent of a wireless home network. Has screen mirroring feature which conveniently shares and displays a compatible mobile devices display and content through the player to a connected TV.
ABOUT FIRMWARE VERSION: Our test results are valid for the version of firmware indicated. If your Blu-ray player's firmware differs from the one shown you either have an older or a newer version of firmware. Manufacturers may periodically upgrade the Blu-ray player's firmware to enhance operation, fix bugs, or add features. Firmware upgrades are downloadable directly to your Blu-ray player via a wired or wireless network (if internet capable), USB port, or memory card, depending on your Blu-ray player's capability. You can check your Blu-ray player's firmware version, or upgrade to the latest firmware by pressing the menu button on your remote and navigating to the appropriate submenu, typically under Settings. Consult the user manual or manufacturer's website if further guidance is needed.
