Design and features:The SoundSport Free wireless has integrated microphones and volume, music player, call connect/disconnect controls for use with paired Bluetooth devices. This model s claimed by the manufacturer to be water resistant and comes with three pairs of ear pieces in various sizes, a USB charging cable, and a charging cradle/recharger battery/carrying case that the manufacturer claims can be used to recharge the earphone batteries up to two times between its own charges. The free Bose Connect app download for Apple and Android mobile devices can be used for setting up the earphones and to help find an earpiece's last location if it is misplaced.
Sound quality: We found the SoundSport Free Wireless delivers sound quality that falls in the very good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks. The overall sound can best be summarized as somewhat bassy and hazy. Bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is somewhat prominent and boomy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is fairly even, but somewhat hazy and a bit grainy. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is fairly extended, but a bit sizzly (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer have a sound reminiscent of bacon frying). While the sound has a good sense of liveliness it is somewhat closed-in (sound-wise it is somewhat obvious that you have something plugging your ears).
Comfort: The SoundSport Free wireless uses a hybrid ear insert/earbud design - the earpieces seal the ear canals but they don't insert into the ear canals as far as typical ear insert models, and they are supported by ear bowls like a earbud model rather than the ear canals. We found that these earphones fit and stay in place with no problems, and are very stable even with vigorous head movement.
