Design and features:This Bluetooth wireless home/studio-style on-ear model provides very good sound. Its open-air design doesn't muffle outside sounds so you'll be able to hear that door bell ring, train announcement, or car horn when you are wearing the headphones. The headphones have medium high sensitivity so they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and even lower powered portable audio devices. The GW100x has a volume control plus an integrated microphone and player function controls. Note: The two samples of this headphone that we tested and the associated foam packaging had a very strong chemical smell when opened. The smell dissipated over several weeks with the box open and the headphones left out of the box, but the smell was still noticeable. A 3rd sample from a different vendor was checked and it also had a chemical smell, but not as strong. Features of the unit include: the Ear cups swivel to flat for ease of carrying and storage. It has volume, music player transport, call connect/disconnect, power on/off and voice assistant controls on the left ear cup. Supports compatible digital voice assistants when used with Bluetooth connected devices that have those features. Bluetooth connected Apple mobile devices using iOS Version 5 and above will show the battery level. The GW100x comes with a detachable 47-inch long standard audio cable, USB-A to USB-C connector charging cable, Owners guide.
Sound quality:We found the GW100x delivers sound quality that falls in the very good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks. The bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes fairly deep. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is even, but somewhat grainy and a bit congested (think sonic traffic jam) and etched (a bit more sharply outlined then it should be). The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended, but a bit to somewhat prominent and a bit sizzly and smeared. The sound also has a good sense of liveliness and is open--sound-wise it seems like you don't have anything plugging up your ears and does a decent job of recovering room ambience. Mixed character - neutral bass through mid-midrange with cool upper midrange and treble. The overall sound can best be summarized as open, but somewhat grainy and bright. Compared to Grado GW100 the bass is more even but the treble is more prominent.
Comfort and Fit:We found that these headphones produce a sense of moderate pressure on the ears.
As typical of on-ear models the ear pads might feel hot and/or sticky after prolonged use.
Large
Users with larger heads might find that the headband does not have enough adjustment range resulting in the headband pressing uncomfortably on the top of the head and/or the ear pads not sitting properly on the ears; the less-than-ideal fit on the ears might reduce the bass response.
Some users may find that when they lean far forward the headphones feel unstable and shift forward, possibly to the point of falling off.
When the audio cord is used the sound of it rubbing on clothing may be faintly heard through the earphones.
Same fit as Grado GW100.
