    Detailed Test Results

    Design and features:

The headphones work with or without the noise canceling feature being turned on, and you can use the noise-canceling feature without listening to music. The Redemption ANC has an integrated microphone and touch sensitive music player, call connect/disconnect, and ambient sound monitoring controls. Additional features include an auto pause feature that stops audio playback when either earphone is taken out of an ear and resumes it when both are put back in, support for voice control and digital voice assistant voice commands when used with Bluetooth capable devices that have those features, and manufacturer claimed water resistance. This model comes with three pairs of ear pieces in various sizes, one pair of earbowl supports, a USB charging cable, and charging cradle/carrying case with built-in battery that the manufacturer claims can be used to recharge the earphone batteries 3 times between its own charges.

    Sound quality:

We found the Redemption ANC delivers sound quality that falls in the very good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks and very good active noise reduction. With the noise cancelling mode engaged the bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is somewhat prominent and boomy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is fairly even, but is somewhat grainy and a bit hazy. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended but is a bit prominent, smeared, and sizzly (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer have a sound reminiscent of bacon frying). While the sound has a decent sense of liveliness, it is somewhat closed (sound-wise it's fairly obvious you have something plugging your ears) and does a decent job of recovering room ambience (the sense of the acoustic space in which the audio program that's being listened to was recorded). Mixed character warm bass with neutral midrange and treble. The overall sound can be summarized as bassy and a bit grainy. The noise cancelling setting does not seem to produce any background noise when there is no audio program material to drown it out. Noise Canceling: Very Good noise reduction across the entire frequency range.

    Comfort and Fit:
As typical of in-ear models they produce a sense of pressure in the ear canal opening might be uncomfortable for some. Users with small ear bowls will probably find that the earphones fit and stay in place with no problems for casual use without the earbowl supports, adding the earbowl supports makes them feel more secure but also makes them feel bulky. Users with medium and large sized ear bowls will probably find that with the earbowl supports this model stays in place with no problems for casual use and that they are stable even during vigorous head movement. Hitting the stem that hangs out of the ear can knock an earphone lose and cause it to fall out of the ear. Some users might find tapping on the touch controls to actuate some of the functions drives the earphone further into the ear bowl and/or canal and causes ear discomfort.
