Design and features:These earphones have an integrated microphone and volume, music player function, and call connect/disconnect controls for use with paired Bluetooth devices. The Halo Smart uses a collar/earphone design - all of the electronics and controls are incorporated into an open collar that sits around the neck, and the earphones are attached to wires that extend from the collar. When the earphones are not in use they can be magnetically attach to collar or to each other. This model is claimed by the manufacturer to be water resistant and comes with four pairs of ear pieces in various sizes, and a USB charging cable. The free Jabra Assist app download for apple or android mobile devices can be used to find the earphones if they are misplaced.
Sound quality: We found the Halo Smart delivers sound quality that falls in the good range - it reproduces music and voice reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. The overall sound can best be summarized as bassy and soft. Bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has lots of impact and goes deep, but is prominent and boomy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is fairly even, but somewhat soft, hazy, and grainy, and overwhelmed by the bass. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended but somewhat subdued and a touch smeared (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer sound blurred). While the sound has a decent sense of liveliness it is somewhat closed-in -- sound-wise it is somewhat obvious that you have something plugging up your ears.
Comfort: We found that these earphones fit and stay in place, and the collar is very convenient and is not generally noticeable unless it interferes with clothing. When the earphones are not in the user's ears they can be magnetically attached each other or to the sides of the collar. As typical of in-ear models they produce a sense of pressure in the ear canal opening might be uncomfortable for some.
