Design and features:Although this home/studio-style on-ear model lacks active noise reduction, the closed design helps to reduce both outside noise and sound leaking out into your environment. The headphones have medium-high sensitivity so they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and even lower-powered portable audio devices. The Major II has an integrated microphone and player function controls that are compatible with iPads, some iPods, and some iPhones and some other cellphones. The call connect/disconnect button can be used with some iPhones and some other cellphones. These headphones may not operate properly with some non-Apple/non-Android mobile devices or other audio equipment. Additional features include audio jacks on left and right earcups that allow the audio cable to be attached on either side (the unused mini-jack can be used as an aux output jack for a second set of headphones) a detachable coiled audio cable with a fully stretched length of more then 60 inches, and earcups that fold for ease of storage/transport.
Sound quality: The Major II delivers sound quality that falls into the good range, with sound that can best be described as full but muffled. Non-critical listeners may find it satisfactory for music and movie soundtrack playback despite a few shortcomings. Bass (the tonal region that more or less covers bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is thumpy and a bit prominent compared to the midrange. Midrange (the tonal range that more or less covers voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is muffled. Treble (the tonal range that covers cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is subdued compared to the midrange, and the upper treble sounds are cut off. The sound is closed in (lacks a sense of openness, making you well aware sound-wise that headphones are covering your ears), congested (think sonic traffic jam), and lacks a bit of liveliness.
Comfort: We found that these headphones produce a moderate sense of pressure on the ears. The ear pads might feel hot and/or sticky after prolonged use.
