Design and features:This Bluetooth wireless noise canceling portable ear-insert model provides good sound and excellent active noise reduction. Its ear plug-like design and electronic noise canceling feature reduce both outside noise and sound leaking out into your environment. The headphones work with or without the noise canceling feature being turned on. You can use the noise-canceling feature without listening to music. The TAN7506 has a volume control plus an integrated microphone and player function controls. Additional features include - a USB dongle and USB-C to USB-A adapter can be used to wirelessly connect the earphones to a computer while the earphones are also Bluetooth connected to a mobile device so that phone calls can be received from either source. The headphone noise cancellation can be controlled via the button on the collar or using controls in the Philips Headphone app. Collar button switches between ANC on, off, and ambient sound monitoring; the app controls also add an "Adaptive Mode". Has button controls on collar for volume adjustment, music player transport, call connect/disconnect, noise cancellation on/off, ambient sound monitoring, as well as touch panels for voice assistant activation and momentary ambient sound monitoring. Sound quality: We found the TAN7506 delivers sound quality that falls in the good range - it reproduces music and voice reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound and excellent active noise reduction. With the noise cancelling mode engaged and the sound effect set to off in the Philips Headphone app (as received setting) the bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes fairly deep but is a bit boomy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is a touch thin and constricted and is somewhat grainy and a bit etched (a bit more sharply outlined then it should be), sibilant and harsh. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended but a bit sizzly (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer have a sound reminiscent of bacon frying) and a touch dry; the mid treble is somewhat prominent. The sound also has a good sense of liveliness and is somewhat open--sound-wise it almost seems like you don't have anything plugging up your ears and does a decent job of recovering room ambience. Mixed character - slightly warm bass and cool midrange and treble. The overall sound can best be summarized as trebly, harsh, and a bit bassy. Noise Canceling: Excellent noise reduction across the entire frequency range with the low frequencies reduced the most. Orientation changes the noise reduction characteristic - when the noise is coming from the front a bit more high-frequency noise can be heard relative to when it's coming from the side or rear. A very, very faint hissing sound can be heard in quiet environments when there is no audio program to drown it out.
Comfort: As typical of in-ear models they produce a sense of pressure in the ear canal opening that might be uncomfortable for some. Users with small ear bowls might find that the earphone body feels a bit bulky in their ear bowl and that they stick out too far and feel like they may lever out of place, but that they will stay in place during casual use and that they are stable during fairly vigorous head movement. Users with medium to large sized ear bowls will probably find that this model stays in place with no problems for casual use and that they are stable during vigorous head movement. Users with larger sized ear canals may find that the largest ear pieces are too small to provide a good seal; if the ear canals are not sealed properly the bass may be reduced and the noise canceling feature will be less effective. The collar is not generally noticeable and is very convenient unless it interferes with clothing or hair. When the earphones are not in the ears they clip together magnetically, dangle from the collar, and rest on the chest where they will swing out away from the body when leaning over; this can be bothersome or expose the earphones to damage. The sound of the earphone connecting cable rubbing on clothing may be heard through the earphones.
