Design and features:Although this portable on-ear model lacks active noise reduction, the closed design helps to reduce both outside noise and sound leaking out into your environment. The headphones have medium-high sensitivity, so they can provide satisfying volume levels when used even with lower-powered portable audio devices. The Hinge has a detachable audio cable with an inline volume control that works with iPads and some iPod and iPhone models, plus an integrated microphone and music player function control that are compatible with iPads, some iPods, some iPhones, and some other cellphones. The call connect/disconnect button can be used with some iPhones and some other cellphones. These headphones may not operate properly with some non-iPod players or other audio equipment. This model has earcups that fold for travel and storage, and it comes with carrying bag.
Sound quality: The Polk Hinge delivers good overall sound, with a warm, muted character. Bass has good impact and goes fairly deep but is prominent, thumpy, and lacks a bit of definition. Midrange and treble are uneven, soft, and lack detail. Overall sound is closed in; midrange and treble dynamics were so-so, but bass dynamics were good.
Comfort: We found that these headphones produce a sense of medium pressure on the ears, and the earpads might feel hot and/or sticky after prolonged use.
