Design and features:This Bluetooth wireless noise-canceling home/studio-style on-ear model has a closed design and electronic noise canceling feature that reduce both outside noise and sound leaking out into your environment. It can be used wirelessly with audio devices with Bluetooth capability or cord connected to standard audio equipment. The headphones work with or without the noise canceling feature being turned on. You can use the noise-canceling feature without listening to music, and the audio cable can be detached to get it out of the way when the headphones are being used for noise reduction only. The headphones have medium high sensitivity when wire connected and the noise cancelation feature is turned on so they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and even lower-powered portable audio devices. When wire connected and the noise cancelation feature is turned off they have medium sensitivity; so they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and all but the lowest-powered portable audio devices. The Momentum On-Ear Wireless has a built-in microphone and integrated volume, music player and call connect/disconnect controls for use with paired Bluetooth devices. This model has earcups fold for ease of storage/transport and comes with a detachable 56-inch long standard audio cable, a USB charging cable, a mini-plug-to-airplane-jack adapter , a storage bag, and a carrying case.
Sound quality: In noise canceling mode using either a Bluetooth or a wired connection we found the Momentum On-Ear Wireless provides very good active noise reduction and delivers sound quality that falls in the very good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks. The overall sound can best be summarized as somewhat bass-heavy with a bit of midrange edginess. The bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is pronounced and thumpy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is even, but a slightly dark (there is an opaqueness that covers up fine detail) and edgy, and a bit overwhelmed by the bass. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended but lacks fine detail. While the sound has a good sense of liveliness it is closed-in (sound-wise it is obvious that you have something covering your ears), and a bit constricted (think straightjacketed). In cord-connected mode with the noise cancelling feature turned off (it can't be turned off in the wireless mode) the sound quality is still in the very good range but improves slightly - the bass is less thumpy but more pronounced relative to the midrange, and the midrange and treble become smoother and more natural sounding. The noise canceling capability of this model, while inconsistent, was at least very good overall. There was excellent quieting when the noise came from the front on wide range noise with the most quieting occurring on high frequency noise. When the noise comes from the sides or rear noise cancellation falls into the very good range -- the low frequencies are still reduced but mid- and high-frequency noise is not reduced as much as when it comes from the front.
Comfort: We found that these headphones produce a sense of medium pressure on the ears. The ear pads might feel hot after prolonged use.
