    Detailed Test Results

    Design and features:

These headphones lack active noise reduction, the ear plug-like design helps to reduce both outside noise and sound leaking out into your environment. The AONIC 215 has an integrated microphone and player function controls and integrated call connect/disconnect controls. Additional features include a detachable Shure TW1 Bluetooth receiver; TW1 Bluetooth receiver can be swapped out for optional cable accessories for cord connected use. Charging/carrying case has built-in rechargeable battery that the manufacturer claims can be used to recharge the earphone batteries 3 times (to add an additional 24 hrs. for a total of 32 hrs. of playtime). Free ShurePlus Play app download for Apple and Android mobile devices adds additional features. Music audio plays in both earphones, but call audio only plays in right earphone. Has power on/off and Bluetooth pairing, and battery level voice announcements. Supports compatible digital voice assistants when used with Bluetooth devices that have those features. Bluetooth connected Apple mobile devices using iOS Version 5 and above will show the battery level. The ShurePlus Play app download for Apple or Android mobile devices can be used to change the sound via preset or custom EQ settings (EQ is only applied to sound played from within the ShurePlus Play app), adjust ambient sound monitoring levels, show the battery level, act as a music player, and update the earphone's firmware. This model comes with six pairs of ear pieces in various types and sizes, USB-A to USB-C charging cable, charging cradle/recharger battery/carrying case.

    Sound quality:

We found the AONIC 215 delivers sound quality that falls in the very good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks. With the ShurePlus Play app set with EQ off (the as received state of the headphone) the bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is a bit boomy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is fairly even, but a bit grainy, hazy, and congested. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended, but a bit smeared (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer sound blurred) and dry. The sound also has a good sense of liveliness and is open--sound-wise it seems like you don't have anything plugging up your ears. It does a decent job of recovering room ambience (the sense of the acoustic space in which the audio program that's being listened to was recorded). Good dynamics. Neutral character. The overall sound can be summarized as slightly bassy and a bit hazy. The tone settings of the app do have a noticeable effect on the sound of these earphones, but only when program material is played using the player built into the app.

    Comfort and Fit:
As typical of in-ear models they produce a sense of pressure in the ear canal opening that might be uncomfortable for some. Users will probably find that this model stays in place with no problems for casual use and that they are very stable even during vigorous head movement but it may take some fumbling to get them in place. The control button assembly at the end of the hook behind the ear may feel cumbersome to some users. Some users might find pushing control button located at the end of the hook behind the ear that actuates the functions drives the button assembly into the bone behind the ear.
