Design and features:These headphones can be used wirelessly with Bluetooth devices or can be cord connected. When cord connected they have low sensitivity; so while they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and higher powered portable audio devices, they may not be a good match for lower-powered portables. The Hesh 3 Wireless has an integrated microphone and volume, music player function, and call connect/disconnect controls for use with paired Bluetooth devices. Additional features include earcups that fold and swivel to flat for ease of storage/transport. This model comes with a detachable 46-inch long audio cable that works with the mic and answer/player control button built-into headphone for iPhone/iPod/iPad and smartphone use, and a USB charging cable.
Sound quality: We found the Hesh 3 Wireless delivers sound quality that falls in the very good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks. The overall sound can best be summarized as somewhat bassy and sizzly. Bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is somewhat prominent and boomy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is fairly even, but is somewhat hazy and a bit grainy and a touch edgy. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended, but somewhat prominent and sizzly (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer have a sound reminiscent of bacon frying). While the sound has a decent sense of liveliness it is somewhat closed-in (sound-wise it is somewhat obvious that you have something covering your ears). There was no significant difference between Bluetooth and cord connected sound quality.
Comfort: We found that these headphones produce a sense of medium pressure around the ears. As typical of on-ear models the ear pads might feel hot and/or sticky after prolonged use. Users with smaller heads might find that they can't get a good earpad seal (the earpads gap at the top above the ears) and that the bass becomes a bit subdued. Users with larger heads might find that the headband does not have enough adjustment range to allow the earcups rest properly over the ears and/or that the headband presses uncomfortably on the top of the head. Users with larger ears might find that the over-the-ear fit of the ear pads feel cramped, or that the ear pads sit on, rather than around their ears. When wearing this model while walking the vibrations from each foot step may be heard through the headphones by some users, and when the audio cable is connected the sound of it rubbing on clothing may be heard through the headphones by some users depending on the clothing it's rubbing on.
