Design and features:This portable ear-insert model's non-isolating design doesn't muffle outside sounds so you'll be able to hear that door bell ring, train announcement, or car horn when you are wearing these earphones. They have medium-high sensitivity so they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and even lower-powered portable audio devices. The BioSport has an integrated microphone and player function controls that are compatible with iPads, some iPods, and some iPhones and some other cellphones. The call connect/disconnect button can be used with some iPhones and some other cellphones. These earphones may not operate properly with some non-Apple/non-Android mobile devices or other audio equipment. Additional features include a built-in heart rate monitor function that our tests showed to be very accurate (requires free RunKeeper app for Apple or Android, or another compatible app, to view heart rate on a connected mobile device), and the manufacturer claims that the BioSport is water resistant. This model comes with three pairs of ear pieces in various sizes, a removable shirt clip, and a carrying case.
Sound quality: The BioSport delivers sound quality that falls in the fair range, meaning that it has major sonic shortcomings. While it's fine for taking phone calls and non-critical listeners may find it adequate for movie and TV dialog, audio books, and podcasts, it's not a good choice for those whose focus is music. The overall sound can best be described as bass-shy, lean, and congested. Bass (the tonal region that more or less covers bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has little impact, lacks detail, and doesn't go deep. Midrange (the tonal range that more or less covers voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is somewhat thin, nasal, hazy, congested (think sonic traffic jam), and can be piercing. Treble (the tonal range that covers cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is subdued compared to the rest of the tonal range and smeared (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer sound blurred). While the sound has a good sense of liveliness it is closed in (lacks a sense of openness, making you well aware sound-wise that earphones are in your ears).
Comfort: We found that these earphones fit and stay in place with no problems, and are very stable even with vigorous head movement. The heart rate monitor function proved to be very accurate in our tests.
