    Detailed Test Results

    Design and features:

This model has touch controls with default settings for music player transport, call connect/disconnect, volume, noise canceling/ambient sound monitoring, and digital voice assistant activation. Either earphone can be used alone for one ear monitoring of Bluetooth streamed audio and telephone communications. It has an automatic pause feature that pauses audio when headphones are removed from the ears and resumes audio when placed back in the ears. It also supports Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, and other unspecified digital voice assistants when used with Bluetooth connected devices that have those features. The carrying case/charging cradle has a built-in rechargeable battery that the manufacturer claims can be used to add an up to an additional 17.5 hours of play time for a total of 25 hrs., and the case can be charged with a USB-C cable or wirelessly. The free Technics Audio Connect app download for Apple and Android mobile devices adds additional features and software updates.

    Sound quality:

The Hi-Fi True Wireless Earbuds II with Noise Cancelling EAH-AZ60M2 provides excellent active noise reduction and delivers sound quality that falls in the very good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks. The overall sound can best be summarized as a bit bassy and grainy. With the noise canceling mode engaged and set to maximum and the Technics Audio Connect app sound mode set to Direct (as received state of the earphone) the bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is a bit prominent and boomy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is even, but is a bit grainy and hazy, and a touch congested (think sonic traffic jam). The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended, but is a bit sizzly (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer have a sound reminiscent of bacon frying), smeared, and dry, and the mid- to upper treble is a bit prominent. The sound also has a good sense of liveliness and is somewhat open--sound-wise it almost seems like you don't have anything plugging up your ears. It also does a decent job of recovering the room ambience of recordings. The tone settings of the app do have a noticeable effect on the sound of these earphones. These earphones provide excellent noise reduction across the entire frequency range with the low frequencies reduced the most. A very faint rushing sound can be heard in quiet environments when there is no audio program to drown it out.

    Comfort and Fit:
As typical of in-ear models they produce a sense of pressure in the ear canal opening that might be uncomfortable for some. Users with small ear bowls might find that the earphone body feels a bit bulky in their ear and that they stick out too far and feel like they may lever out of place; some may find that they only stay in place during casual use while others may find that they are stable during vigorous head movement. Users with medium and large sized ear bowls will probably find that this model stays in place with no problems for casual use and that they are stable during vigorous head movement. Incidental contact with the touch controls can cause unintentional volume level changes or noise canceling/ambient sound monitoring toggling.
