Sound quality: Beats by Dr. Dre's Pill+ had good overall sound quality. Bass has decent impact but is soft and lacking in detail and deep bass is lacking. Midrange is fairly even but is somewhat hazy, slightly grainy and a bit boxy. Treble is smeared and the upper treble is subdued and can sound a bit recessed with some program material. It does a mediocre job of recovering room ambience in the upper midrange and is congested and a bit harsh and the upper treble sounds constricted. No significant difference between Bluetooth and wired sound quality. It can provide enough volume to be heard in a medium-sized room. When two units are used as a stereo pair, sound quality remains the same, but since two separate speakers are used the sound stage, it can be made wider, depending on placement and it recovers a little more room ambience, improving the quality.
Ease of use: We found the Beats by Dr. Dre Pill+ to be very good overall. The volume controls are prominent, but low contrast +/- buttons lack max/min volume indicators. Switching between Bluetooth and Line-in is plug and unplug. The line input has priority over Bluetooth when plugged in, with slight or no delay. You must unplug the line-in to get back to Bluetooth. Aux input labeling is low contrast (black on black). Bluetooth pairing is excellent, as the unit is always in pairing mode when not already paired. It shows a pairing mode indicator where the beats emblem slowly pulses. It also indicates when pairing mode has occurred with a tone and never times out. There is an app, which facilitates the stereo pairing of two units, plus other features.
