Sound quality: Devialet's New Phantom had very good overall sound quality. Bass has good impact and goes very deep but is somewhat prominent and boomy. Midrange is even and fairly detailed but is very slightly hazy. Treble is fairly extended but somewhat subdued and upper treble "sputters" with some program material and is dry. Does a so so job of recovering room ambience and is slightly lacking in detail and complexity. There is no significant difference between WiFi, Bluetooth and Optical input. Provides a decent volume level in a large sized room.
Ease of use: We found the Devialet New Phantom ease of use to be very good overall. WiFi: Setup requires an app downloaded to a device, easy but not intuitive - need instructions (may be included in app), may or may not involve inputting Wi-Fi network password depending on which mobile OS is used. Bluetooth: Unit is always in pairing mode when not already paired, lacks a pairing mode indicator and lacks an indicator when pairing mode has occurred and never times out. Console controls: Unlike most models in our ratings this unit lacks console controls for adjusting volume, muting content and changing sources. App remote: As follows the remote app experience of controlling the volume, muting content and provided transport controls are excellent and selecting sources via the app was good.
