Sound quality: The Edifier S2000MK III has Very Good overall sound quality. Bass has good impact and goes deep, but is slightly prominent and boomy. Midrange is even but is a bit grainy, hazy, and somewhat lacking in upper midrange air. Treble is fairly extended but a touch smeared and somewhat lacking in treble air. Does a good job of recovering room ambience in the upper bass through mid-midrange, but the upper midrange and treble are a bit dark, a touch congested, slightly lacking in detail, clarity and openness (air). This two speaker model comes as a stereo pair, and its sound stage width and focus depends on how it is placed. When well placed the sound field extends well above and to the sides of the speakers and have decent depth, and individual instruments and voices are identifiable and have a three dimensional quality. Provides a decent volume level in a large sized room. There was no significant difference between Bluetooth, optical, coax, and Aux sound quality.
Ease of use: We found the Edifier S2000MKIII ease of use to be Excellent overall. The volume control on the unit is a labeled multifunction infinite-turn knob (volume/Input selector/Bluetooth pairing), and there is a non-persistent numerical volume display on the front of the unit. However, the volume control is not prominent as it is on the rear of speaker. The source selector control is a multi-function push button-knob that is clearly labeled. The control is not prominent on rear of unit, but the source selections are persistently shown on the front display. Wired setup: This is Excellent which involves a 5 Din Pin cable provided for left/right interconnect of speakers. Bluetooth pairing is Excellent as the unit is always in pairing mode when not already paired; unit provides an obvious indication that the unit is in pairing mode as well as when pairing has actually occurred. Remote control: The volume controls have good contrast, and are well placed, but there is nothing to indicate that it is a volume control except + and - symbols. There is a non-persistent numerical volume display on the front of the unit when volume is adjusted on remote. The source selection buttons are well placed and labeled. And the unit has a display that persistently shows which source has been selected. Play function controls are obvious (good contrast, standard symbols), play/pause, skip only, no scan or scrub provision.
