    Detailed Test Results

Sound quality: The Harman Kardon Omni 20 has very good overall sound quality. Bass has good impact, but it's a bit prominent, boomy, and goes fairly deep. Midrange is fairly even. Treble is extended, but a little prominent. As a whole, the sound is slightly soft and congested. We also found the speaker doesn't do a good job recovering room ambience. It does, however, provide a decent volume level in a small- or medium-sized room. And there's no significant sound-quality difference between WiFi, Bluetooth, and wired connections.

Ease of use: In this category, the speaker ranks just fair overall. Connecting to a WiFi network wasn't that hard using a WPS setup. When we connected via other methods, however, the user experience was clumsy. To start, we had to download the HK Controller mobile app. And there were conflicting instructions between the guide provided with the unit and the PDF manual. Controls are high contrast. But there is an unlabeled mute function. We also found the source selection was unintuitive. The unit is always in WiFi standby, for example, and WiFi takes priority when content is played. However, the link button, which looks like a power button, is an unlabeled source selector that permits you to switch between an aux and party mode. To connect via Bluetooth, select the BT button and watch for the link button to turn blue. The Aux input is under the unit, which is inconvenient. The App remote is somewhat difficult to navigate: Volume controls, mute controls, and source are buried in the menu structure.
