Sound quality: Harman Kardon's Onyx Studio 7 had Good overall sound quality - this model reproduces music and dialog reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. Bass has good impact and goes deep but is generally somewhat prominent and boomy, and can be very prominent with some program material. Midrange is even, but is somewhat grainy, and hazy. Treble is fairly extended, but is slightly smeared and somewhat subdued. Does a so-so job of recovering room ambience and sounds somewhat congested. When two units are used as a stereo pair the sound stage can be made wider depending on placement. Provides a decent volume level in a large sized room. No significant difference between Bluetooth and Aux input sound quality.
Ease of use: We found the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 7 ease of use to be very good overall. Bluetooth pairing requires the press of a low contrast button; then discover with your device. There is an indication when unit is in pairing mode and when it has paired. Volume controls are low contrast buttons that are in a prominent place, nothing to indicate that it is a volume control except a + and - symbols. No index markings but it does indicate with a tone when you reach the max volume setting. Sources: Works with line in and Bluetooth inputs. Plug and unplug - The Bluetooth input has priority over Line-in when plugged in and must pause or stop Bluetooth for line in playback to start with slight or no delay.
