Sound quality: The House of Marley Roots Rock speaker system had good overall sound quality. Bass has so-so impact, mid-bass is rolled off, and lower bass is lacking. Midrange is even but congested, hazy, and smoothed over. Treble is hazy and soft, and upper treble sounds rolled off. This model doesn't do a good job recovering room ambience----the sense of an acoustic space, such as the hall or room in which a recording was made--and sounds congested and lacking in detail. We found no significant difference in sound quality whether we used a wired or Bluetooth connection. This model can provide a decent volume level in a small to medium-sized room.
Ease of use: We found this speaker easy to use. Bluetooth pairing was simple, and the Roots Rock's controls are prominent and clearly marked. There is no source selector function, so if a paired Bluetooth source and source connected to the player using a cord are played, they will both be heard (either individually or at the same time). This unit lacks a remote, which isn't an issue if the speaker is within arm's reach or if you're using a mobile Bluetooth device as a remote, but it could be inconvenient in other situations.
