Sound quality: Ion's Sport had good overall sound quality. Bass has good impact but deep bass is lacking; while it's a bit boomy it may sound subdued with some program material. Midrange is a bit grainy, thin, edgy and nasal. Treble is a bit subdued and somewhat smeared and upper treble is muted. Does a so so job of recovering room ambience, sounds a bit congested and constricted and is lacking in detail. Bluetooth and wired sound quality are similar. Provides a decent volume level in a large sized room. The speaker is monophonic.
Ease of use: We found the ION Sport ease of use to be excellent overall. Volume controls are a large knob with index markings and well labeled min and max settings. Switching sources is a mixed bag - Plug and unplug - The line input has priority over Bluetooth when plugged. Unambiguous. However, line-in must be disconnected to return to Bluetooth. Both Bluetooth and Radio, Line-in and FM Radio play simultaneously so must stop one to play the other. Blueooth pairing - the unit is always in pairing mode when not already paired, has a pairing mode indicator. Indicates when pairing mode has occurred and never times out.
