Sound quality: Master & Dynamic's MA770 had very good sound quality overall. Bass has good impact and goes deep but is boomy and somewhat prominent. Midrange is fairly even but is a bit soft, somewhat hazy and congested and slightly grainy. Treble is extended but is somewhat subdued and slightly smeared. Does a so so job of recovering room ambience, and sounds somewhat congested and is lacking in detail. There is no significant difference between WiFi and Optical input but treble is subdued with Bluetooth and Line-Inputs. Provides a decent volume level in a medium to large sized room. When two units are combined to form a stereo pair; its sound stage can be made wider depending on placement but room ambience remains so so - scores the same as single unit.
Ease of use: We found the Master & Dynamic MA770 ease of use to be very good overall. Wireless setup: Requires an app downloaded to a mobile device, it's easy and intuitive - needs instructions which are included in app, may or may not involve inputting the WiFi network password, and an account setup. DLNA: Setup instructions are ambiguous, or key steps are omitted, there is no explanation as to how to actually make the connection. However, we used a third party app to cast content to the speaker. Bluetooth: Requires the selection of the Bluetooth source button which was unlabeled for pairing on unit and then the selection of unit from Bluetooth selection list on source device; unit provides an obvious indication that the unit is in pairing mode as well as when pairing has actually occurred. However, when returning to Bluetooth source from another input, the user must manually re-select unit from Bluetooth list on source device to play content again - Does not auto re-pair. Console Controls: Volume controls are well labeled but when used the console lacks any indicator that the max volume is reached and lacks index or graphical markings of level. The volume controls are also unlabeled multi-function for stereo pairing with another unit. Mute: Well marked "Pause" button and well placed, but no indication on unit when muting is engaged. Source selection: The source button is excellent as it is prominent and clearly labeled and the console clearly indicates per input with words and an LED indicator which source has been selected. As follows the remote app experience of controlling the volume was good, muting content - excellent, selecting sources - good and transport controls - good.
