Sound quality: PreSonus's Eris 5BT 2nd Gen (pair) had very Good overall sound quality - although it has some noticeable sonic quirks, this model reproduces music and dialog very well. The bass has good impact and goes deep, is a bit prominent and boomy. Midrange is fairly even but is a touch grainy - lower midrange is a touch subdued. Treble is fairly extended and a touch subdued. Does a decent job of recovering room ambience, is fairly detailed. Volume:
Provides a decent volume level in a large sized room but can get harsh at louder volumes. The two channel sound field extends somewhat above and to the sides of the sides of the speaker enclosures. Because these are two separate speakers they can be placed to provide better stereo separation than many other models. Individual instruments and voices are identifiable and have a two dimensional quality.
Ease of use: We found the Eris 5BT 2nd Gen (pair) ease of use to be acceptable overall. Volume control is a prominently placed, well labeled high contrast knob but it lacked numerical/graphical indicator of volume level. The console lacked a mute control. Source selection: The unit lacks a formal source selection menu and requires a direct approach to direct audio wirelessly (BT) or via its analog audio ports. Bluetooth: Pairing always requires a press of a well marked button on unit and then the selection of unit from Bluetooth selection list on source device; unit provides an obvious indication that the unit is in pairing mode as well as when pairing has actually occurred.
