Sound quality: The Samsung Level Box had fair overall sound quality. This speaker lacks mid and low bass, and upper bass lacks impact. Midrange is fairly even but is somewhat hazy, and grainy, and treble is recessed, spitty and lacks fine detail. The system doesn't do a good job recovering room ambience--the sense of an acoustic space, such as the hall or room in which a recording was made--sounds a bit congested overall, and lacks fine detail and complexity. The "3D SoundAlive" feature does have a noticeable effect, reducing the overall volume level and making the sound more diffuse and echoey. We found no significant difference in sound quality whether we used a wired or Bluetooth connection. This model can provide enough volume to be heard in a small to medium-sized room, but is better suited for closer listening.
Ease of use: The system's ease of use was good overall. While Bluetooth pairing was easy and it can touch pair using NFC, the Level Box's controls have low-contrast labels. This model emits tone bursts for various functions such as on and off; in quiet environments these sounds aren't particularly loud, but they are non-adjustable and can't be turned off, and may be annoying to some users. This model doesn't come with a remote control--it's not an issue if you're nearby or using it with a portable Bluetooth device that can act as a remote, but it could be inconvenient in other situations.
