Sound quality: Sonos's Roam 2 had acceptable overall sound quality - this model reproduces music and dialog reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. Bass has decent impact, is a bit subdued and doesn't go deep. Midrange is even, but is a bit hazy and grainy, congested and a touch etched. Treble is extended but is somewhat prominent, smeared and sizzly. It does a so-so job of recovering room ambience, sounds a bit congested, and lacks fine detail. The unit is monophonic and regardless of orientation, the sound field extends somewhat above and a bit to the sides of the enclosure; depth is flat. Individual instruments and voices can be identified, but have a two dimensional quality. Can be paired with a second Roam 2 to form a stereo pair that can be placed to provide better stereo separation.
