Sound quality: Sony's ULT Field 5 had acceptable overall sound quality - this model reproduces music and dialog reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. The bass has good impact but is a bit prominent and boomy and goes fairly deep. Midrange is fairly even but is somewhat congested and a touch grainy and hazy. Treble is fairly extended but is somewhat prominent and sizzly and a bit smeared. Does a so-so job of recovering room ambience, sounds somewhat congested. The stereo sound field extends a bit above but not much to the sides of the speaker enclosure. Individual instruments and voices are identifiable but have a two dimensional quality.
Volume:
Provides a decent volume level in a medium sized room. When two units are combined to form a stereo pair the sound field can be made wider depending on placement.
