Sound quality: Ultimate Ears's Epicboom had acceptable overall sound quality - this model reproduces music and dialog reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. The bass has decent impact, is a bit subdued and boomy, and the deep bass is lacking. Midrange is fairly even, but is somewhat hazy, a bit grainy, and a touch plasticky. Treble is fairly extended, but is a bit smeared, sizzly and dry. Does a decent job of recovering room ambience, but sounds somewhat congested. Provides a decent volume level in medium sized room. The Outdoor Blast sound mode has a noticeable effect on the sound; the bass becomes a bit tubby and the midrange becomes more prominent.

Has adaptive EQ setting that optimizes speakers sound based on the environment it is currently played in. Has Partyup mode that can connect over 150 "boom" series speakers for sound reinforcement (increased evenness of sound spread and/or volume in a given area).
