Garmin Forerunner 35
Garmin Forerunner 35

    Garmin Forerunner 35

CR’s take: While technically a fitness tracker, this model offers more of a watchlike feel. You get a 1.3-inch monochrome display that shows you your step count and real-time heart rate. The Forerunner 35 has a built-in GPS and a claimed battery life of nine days, and it made good on its water-resistance claim of 164 feet. In our testing, it received top marks for heart-rate-tracking and step-count accuracy, as well as for being easy to use.

      Samsung Galaxy Buds

CR’s take: Workouts are a lot easier to get through when you have your favorite tunes playing. For help with that, we recommend this set of headphones. The Samsung Galaxy Buds are one of the best-scoring portable Bluetooth headphones Consumer Reports has ever tested, beating out more popular rivals like the Apple AirPods. That’s all the more impressive given their true wireless design. The Galaxy Buds produce exemplary audio quality packed into a pair of unobtrusive earpieces, complete with easy-to use touch controls for playback, volume, and skipping tracks. According to Samsung, they have a 6-hour battery life and come with a powered carrying case that will recharge the earphones for up to 7 additional hours of playback on the go. The case itself can be charged with a wireless charging mat, and it’s particularly small compared with the cases that come with many true wireless models.

        Fitbit Versa 2

CR's take: The Fitbit Versa 2 is a smartwatch with a 1.4-inch touchscreen color AMOLED display, compatible with iOS and Android, and includes step counting, sleep tracking, and calories burned. Unlike its predecessor, the Versa, this smartwatch comes with Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant built in. It also does a better job at tracking your heart rate, earning an Excellent rating in that test.

          Bose Soundlink Micro

CR's take: If you need a speaker that's not just portable but really invites you to carry it with you, look no further than the Bose Soundlink Micro. Just under 4 inches square, this device can easily strap onto a backpack or bicycle handlebars. And while it fell short of larger models in our sound-quality testing, our techs found the Micro to be largely enjoyable to listen to. The Micro is ruggedized with a silicon cover in red, blue, or black, resulting in a speaker that's said to exceed IPX 7 water-resistance standards.

            Ninja Smart Screen DUO with...

CR’s take: Looking for a post-workout pick-me-up? Ninja blenders garner a Very Good rating in owner satisfaction in our member survey. The 1,100-watt Ninja Smart Screen Duo with FreshVac CT661V is a CR Best Buy and comes with a battery-powered vacuum pump that attaches to the top of the blender when you want to vacuum out air before blending. Why would you want to do that? Our tests found that in vacuum mode, the Ninja makes smoothies that are smoother, less foamy, and more consistent in texture than smoothies made in regular mode. Two 20-ounce plastic cups with lids are included—use them to vacuum out air, blend, then take with you to work or a workout.
