Sound quality: We found the A-3 delivers sound quality that falls in the good range - it reproduces music and voice reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. We found the sound quality of this model is very dependent on how these earphones are positioned in the ears. When optimally positioned the bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact, but is a bit prominent and boomy, and deep bass is lacking. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is fairly even, but is somewhat grainy and a bit hazy, etched (a bit more sharply outlined then it should be), and some users may find they sound a bit metallic. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is fairly extended, but is a somewhat prominent, smeared, and sizzly. The sound also has a good sense of liveliness and is somewhat open--sound-wise it almost seems like you don't have anything plugging up your ears and does a decent job of recovering room ambience. Neutral character. When optimally positioned, the overall sound can be summarized as a bit bassy, somewhat grainy and a bit hazy, etched. Less then optimal positioning results in bass that can be much more prominent or subdued and can greatly effect the tonal balance of these earphones.
Comfort: We found that these earphones do not produce pressure in the ear canal. Users with small ear bowls will probably find that this model stays in place with no problems for casual use and that they are very stable even during vigorous head movement; some will find they have to fiddle a bit to find the position that provides the best sound quality, others will find that they no matter how they position them the sound quality is very compromised with the result being very subdued bass. Users with medium sized ear bowls will probably find they have to fiddle a bit to find the position that provides the best sound quality, and that the earphones may not reliably stay in the optimum position; while this model will tend to stay in place during casual they will readily shift position during fairly vigorous head movements. Users with larger sized ear bowls will probably find they have to fiddle a bit to find the position that provides the best sound quality but once the position is found the earphones will tend to stay in place during casual use and even during fairly vigorous head movements.
