Intelligentsia, Oatly, Stumptown, Premier Protein, and Other Drink Brands Recalled Due to Potential Bacterial Contamination

Producer Lyons Magnus expands earlier recall. Products may contain the dangerous bacteria Cronobacter sakazakii or Clostridium botulinum.

Lyons Magnus has expanded its earlier recall of 53 beverages—such as protein drinks, nutrition drinks, cold-brew coffees, and plant milks—sold under various brands to include more than 80 products.

The manufacturer says that the products did not meet commercial sterility specifications and that there’s a risk they could be contaminated with microorganisms, including Cronobacter sakazakii or Clostridium botulinum.

No illnesses have been reported. Cronobacter sakazakii is the bacteria that triggered a recall of powdered infant formula earlier this year. The bacteria was linked to at least two infant deaths. 

Clostridium botulinum is a bacteria that produces the toxin that causes botulism.

None of the products involved in this current recall are meant for infants (children under 1 year old).

(For flavors, package sizes, UPC codes, lot codes, and best-by dates, see the Food and Drug Administration recall announcement.) If you have any of the recalled products, don’t drink them, even if they don’t look or smell spoiled. Instead, return them to the store where you bought them for a refund or dispose of them.

Lyons Magnus did not immediately respond to CR’s request for comment.
