    Much of my childhood and young adulthood was spent showering with either soap that turned my skin into a flaky ski slope or that sent me out into the day emitting the strong scent of artificial “sweet pea” or “cucumber melon.”

    It’s to everyone’s benefit that body wash offerings, and my own discernment, have improved in recent years. I employed this enhanced sense of judgment in our recent evaluation of 19 body washes, alongside my colleagues Justin Krajeski, Ginger Cowles, and Mary Beth Quirk. 

    We evaluated body washes that our partner, MadeSafe, determined to be some of the most environmentally friendly available. Some of the body washes were excellent. Several will be left in free bins in front of our homes. Read on for our favorites—those that are hydrating, comfortable on the skin, and, for those who love an aromatherapy session, smell the best.
