The best e-bike cover should fit snugly over a bike, resist wind, and protect key components from rain and snow.

If you ever park your e-bike outdoors, finding a great cover is critical. The best e-bike covers are generally heavy-duty and waterproof (or water-resistant) to protect your bike from rust and electrical issues caused by exposure to the elements. A cover should also tie down for a snug fit that resists blowing off in the wind.

To find the best e-bike covers, we spoke to e-bike experts and enthusiasts, including Mike McGary, the manager at Watt Cycleworks in Minneapolis, and Charles Ross, textile specialist and performance and sportswear design subject lead at the Royal College of Art in London. They offered us insights about the features, materials, and models to look for, which informed our selection of the seven options below. They also offered expert tips on what to look for while shopping. Chief among those tips: Look for a cover with a denier rating (more on those, below) of around 210 to 420. These numbers, often written as 210D or 420D in product specifications, reflect a cover’s balance between flexibility and water resistance.

    Best E-Bike Covers

    Topcrown Bike Cover

    Topcrown Bike Cover

Material: 210D and 420D Oxford fabric
    Water resistance: Waterproof
    Security features: Band and buckles
Size: XL, 79x28x43 inches (length x width x height); XXL, 83x37x43 inches (LxWxH); XXXL, 87x43x47 inches (LxWxH)

The Topcrown Bike Cover is a top seller on Amazon, and it’s also the least expensive e-bike cover on this list. The black-and-green e-bike cover features 210D fabric, a hydrophobic coating, a polyurethane waterproof coating, and an anti-ultraviolet coating to protect the cover from color fading in the sun. (If you live in a colder, wetter area, you might consider the slightly pricier Topcrown Cover made from 420D fabric, which can protect against more extreme weather.) It comes with an elastic band at the bottom of the cover, as well as buckles that fit around the front and rear wheels to secure the cover in windy conditions. The Topcrown comes with a storage bag for use with the folded cover.

    Puroma Bike Cover

    Puroma Bike Cover

Material: 190T and 420D Oxford fabric
    Water resistance: Waterproof
    Security features: Band and buckle
Size: XL, 79x28x43 inches (length x width x height); XXL, 83x37x43 inches (LxWxH); XXXL, 83x47x43 inches (LxWxH)

Like the Topcrown cover, the Puroma Bike Cover is a top seller on Amazon. The inexpensive bike cover is made from polyurethane waterproof and ultraviolet-resistant coatings. The Puroma Bike Cover comes in a variety of sizes for one to three bikes. It also comes in two fabrics: 420D and 190 thread count (T). While 190T is lightweight and easier to fold, the 420D is a more durable fabric better suited to extreme weather conditions. It features a double-stitched elastic hem and buckles to keep the cover in place, even in strong winds. It also comes with a storage bag for use when the Puroma is folded.

    Favoto Bike Cover

    Favoto Bike Cover

    Material: Oxford fabric
    Water resistance: Waterproof
    Security features: Band and buckle
Size: XL, 78.7x27.5x43.3 inches (length x width x height)

Unlike most of the other covers here, the Favoto Bike Cover is available in only one size. If you’re hoping to cover more than one e-bike, consider another option. (Depending on where you look on its Amazon page, Favoto claims its cover can hold two bikes; keep in mind that its measurements are the same as the other e-bike covers here, which are meant to cover only one bike.) Favoto doesn’t mention whether the cover’s fabric is denier-rated, though the manufacturer claims that it’s made from Oxford with waterproof and ultraviolet-resistant coatings. If you’re looking for a strong cover, consider another option from this list. The Favoto features an elastic band at the bottom and a buckle to tighten and protect against wind; it also comes with a storage bag for use when the Favoto is folded.

    Zettum 600D Bike Cover

    Zettum 600D Bike Cover

    Material: 600D Oxford fabric
    Water resistance: Waterproof
    Security features: Drawstring and buckles
Size: L, 77x31x47 inches (length x width x height); XL, 82x38x47 inches (LxWxH); XXL, 83x46x47 inches (LxWxH)

The Zettum 600D Bike Cover is another top seller on Amazon. It has a waterproof coating and a higher denier rating than any other e-bike cover on this list—600D compared to 210D and 420D. That means the Zettum should provide more protection against harsher elements, but it will be much more difficult to fold and store. It features an elastic drawstring and two buckles at the bottom to secure your e-bike against wind and the elements. It comes with a storage bag when the cover isn’t in use.

    Sunlite Heavy Duty Bike Cover

    Sunlite Heavy Duty Bike Cover

    Material: Vinyl fabric
    Water resistance: Water-resistant
    Security features: Drawstring
Size: 80x33x48 inches (length x width x height)

The Sunlite Heavy Duty Bike Cover is pricier than many covers. It’s made from a heavy-duty vinyl to protect your bike from poor weather, and it’s one of the simpler-looking e-bike covers on the list; while other covers here have their company name splashed across their sides in bright colors, the Sunlite is a transparent dark blue with no obvious branding. Sunlite doesn’t mention whether its fabric is denier-rated. If you need something that’s breathable and easy to fold, the Sunlite’s water-resistant cover should do the trick, but if you’re looking for something more durable, consider another option. It comes with a drawstring to secure the cover around your e-bike. Though it folds up, it doesn’t come with a carrying bag.

    BiKase EBike Cover

    BiKase EBike Cover

    Material: 300D ripstop nylon fabric
    Water resistance: Water-resistant
Security features: Drawstring and cinch straps
Size: 73x34x44 inches (length x width x height)

McGary recommends the BiKase EBike Cover, which he says has good features for the price. That said, it’s the most expensive e-bike cover on our list. It’s made from a more durable 300D ripstop nylon with a water-resistant coating. (If you’re especially worried about torrential rainfall, we recommend a waterproof cover instead of a water-resistant one.) The BiKase e-bike cover comes with tie-down cinch straps to secure it to your e-bike’s wheels and reduce wind drag, and unlike others, it has a zippered opening near the top so you can more easily access the bike when it’s covered. It comes with a storage bag for use with the folded cover.

    Lectric eBikes Bike Cover

    Lectric eBikes Bike Cover

    Material: 210D polyester fabric
    Water resistance: Water-resistant
    Security features: Buckles
Size: 78x27.5x43 inches (length x width x height)

The Lectric eBikes Bike Cover is not the most expensive e-bike cover on our list, but it’s pricier than many of the options from lesser-known brands. For the money, the black e-bike cover is made from 210D polyester and is water-resistant—consider a waterproof cover if you’re worried about heavy rain. Instead of a drawstring, the Lectric eBikes Bike Cover comes with buckles to secure it to your e-bike in case of adverse weather. It comes with a storage bag for use when the cover is folded.

How We Choose the Best E-Bike Covers

We talked to experts to find out about the most important qualities to consider when you’re looking to buy an e-bike cover.

Heavy-duty material: Many e-bike covers have a D (denier) rating, Ross says.

Denier—which has nothing to do with the verb deny—is a unit of measurement that defines a fabric’s linear mass density, thickness, and weight of fibers (in other words, the thickness of the e-bike cover’s threads). “When you get into detail, there is a direct correlation between denier size and strength: The bigger the [denier] number, the greater the tensile strength,” Ross says. When buying an e-bike cover, it’s important to balance the strength of your fabric against the convenience of being able to pull it off your e-bike and fold it small enough to pack away. The stronger the fabric is, the more difficult to bend and fold. You’ll see 210D, 420D, and so on. (210D is fine for normal weather, while 420D is better suited to extreme weather.)

Waterproof or water-resistant: There’s a difference between an e-bike cover that’s labeled waterproof as opposed one that has water-resistance claims. While a waterproof coating completely blocks water (at the expense of breathability and flexibility), a water-resistant coating only repels light moisture and brief water exposure (at the expense of durability). If you plan to keep your bike outside and live somewhere that rains, you should make sure your e-bike cover is waterproof.

Security features: An effective cover must also stay in place. “Depending on the bike, the cover can sometimes flap around in the wind,” McGary says. Extra security features, like a lash or a fastening system, are important for that reason.

If you’re transporting your e-bike on the back of your car, McGary recommends buying an e-bike battery bag and cockpit cover instead of a complete e-bike cover. “Full bike covers can cover car taillights and license plates and restrict rearward vision,” he says.
