Live It Up Super Greens Powder Recalled for Salmonella Risk
The product has been linked to 45 illnesses in 21 states
Original and wild berry flavors of Live It Up Super Greens have been linked to a nationwide outbreak of illnesses caused by the bacteria salmonella, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Wednesday.
The Food and Drug Administration recommended that the company recall the product, and it agreed to do so on Jan. 14, the agency said. The products were sold nationwide, primarily on Live It Up’s website and other websites such as Amazon, eBay, and Walmart, according to the FDA.
Forty-five people have become ill, and 12 have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported. The states where sick people are located are: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin.
In a recall notice, Live It Up said it has stopped production of the product while it and the FDA investigate the source of the contamination. Live It Up did not immediately respond to CR’s request for more information.
