After consumers complained about finding bits of hard plastic in Trader Joe’s Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings, the company has recalled more than 60,000 pounds of the product. The dumplings were produced by CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corporation. No injuries have been reported.

The frozen dumplings, sold six to a box, have a best-by date of 03/07/2025 and lot codes ”C1-1” and “C1-2” printed on the side of the box.

    More on food safety

The plastic came from pieces of a permanent marker pen, according to CJ Foods, that accidentally got into the products during the manufacturing process. “Our food safety and quality experts are working with our team to address the matter so it does not happen again, ” Chuck Blomberg, a spokesperson for CJ Foods, told CR.

Blomberg says to return recalled packages to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund.

“Check your freezers,” says James E. Rogers, PhD, director of food safety research and testing at CR, “because it’s easy to forget what foods you have stored for later use. If you do have the recalled product, throw it out or return it.”
