We Tried It: The Dyson Airstrait
It’s a blow-dryer and hair straightener in one, but is it worth $500?

Since launching the Supersonic hair dryer in 2016, the Dyson company has become synonymous with high-tech (and high-priced) hair tools. In 2018 it came out with the Airwrap multi-styler and then the Corrale straightener two years later. And now the Airstrait wet-to-dry straightener is the latest Dyson hair tool to enter the market, with a $500 price.
The claim for all its tools, whether you’re seeking a sleek, straight look or a bouncy C-curl, is fast styling with less heat damage thanks to efficient and powerful technological advancements.
We’ve tried the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer and Dyson Corrale hair straightener in the past, giving them both glowing reviews. The Airstrait wet-to-dry straightener is kind of like the Supersonic-Corrale love child, being able to dry and straighten wet hair simultaneously with zero heat damage.
But can it do either task just as well as its predecessors?
To find out if the Airstrait works as well as the ads would have you believe, we bought one and tested it in our lab in Yonkers, N.Y., and at the Grand Hair Salon & MedSpa in Denver, where stylists and other employees used the straightener on themselves and clients.
