Hayden Bookcase Sold by Dania Furniture Recalled After 4-Year-Old Dies in Tip-Over Incident
The bookcases pose a risk if not properly anchored to a wall
Dania Furniture recalled its Hayden bookcase on Thursday, saying a 4-year-old child was killed in August 2023 when one of the bookcases tipped over. The Hayden bookcases pose a risk of tipping over and trapping children if not properly anchored to a wall, according to the recall.
The bookcase has six storage cubbies and is made of brown wood with three sliding white doors. About 940 of them were sold at Dania Furniture stores nationwide and online on the company’s website from November 2017 through February 2024 for about $370.
People who own the bookcase should immediately stop using it if it’s not properly anchored. Customers can get a refund by contacting the company at 844-722-6347 or ProductSafetyHotline@interline.com, or through the Dania recalls page. Those who prefer to keep the product can contact the company for a free in-home installation of a tip-over restraint kit, the recall says.
