For fidgeters, yoga lovers, and anyone who’s ever felt trapped in the standard office chair posture, they look pretty appealing. But here’s the thing: When a chair’s design shifts that far from the norm, it’s hard to know whether you’re getting a genuinely better experience or just an expensive gimmick.
In theory, criss cross chairs promise the best of both worlds: the support of real office furniture combined with the freedom of a meditation cushion. You can fold your legs, squat, and switch positions as you please. Sweet! But they’re also missing some pretty basic features—the ergonomic benefits you get from a well-designed office chair.
