Three out of four samples of this generator purchased by CR would not start when new. The cause was due to a depleted and non-serviceable battery that powers the CO shutoff module, a component that senses potentially deadly carbon monoxide (CO) and shuts off the generator when levels exceed set limits. It’s good that the generator doesn’t start when this critical safety component is not working, but if you’re not aware of the problem, you could be without power in an emergency. This generator was discontinued in July 2023 and can no longer be purchased, but if you already own one it’s critical to start the generator a few times a year and before bad weather is predicted to ensure it’s still operational.
