What is summer if not the season of grilling? If you’ve been limping along on your old grill, dealing with uneven heating and that one burner that hasn’t ignited in too many summers, you’re probably here because it’s high time to buy something new. But whether you’re trying to keep costs low or you want a grill with lots of bells and whistles, you might as well start your search with the models that are on sale, right?
That’s where I come in. I’m always watching the prices of the best grills in CR’s tests so I can let you know when one of them gets discounted at any retailer, online or in stores (often both). Because a deal is not just about the price, I look at the current cost, what the price has been over time, our ratings and test results, and manufacturers’ suggested retail prices to determine whether today’s discount is really better than usual.
The not-so-good news is that so far this summer, there haven’t been many grills on sale, and the offers I have been seeing aren’t necessarily going to blow you away. But you can still find some savings on a handful of models—there are some good grill accessories on sale, too—and it’s always better to save money whenever you can rather than pay full price if you don’t have to.

Grills
If you’re looking for a small gas grill, this three-burner model from Napoleon is worth a look. It’s a $50 discount that is just shy of 10 percent off, and given how few sales there are on top performers this season, that’s a pretty solid offer. Plus, this is a CR Recommended model, so you know it’s worth the money. It gets high marks in all our tests, with a perfect score for indirect cooking and above-average results in our tests for cooking evenness, preheating, and temperature range.
Weber is best known for its iconic kettle charcoal grill, but this flat-top grill is worth a serious look, especially at Ace Hardware’s unbelievable but very real $170 discount that isn’t available anywhere else. It earns a spot near the top of our ratings for its even heating and broad temperature range. It’s definitely a step up from the lower-priced Blackstone—it features three burners instead of two, a second side shelf, and a lid. It also has some stainless steel accents. While the Blackstone is a great option for no-frills cooking or for a camping trip, the Weber is probably the model you’d want to display on your deck.
Walmart’s Expert Grill 5 Burners Propane with Side Burner has very good overall performance and, as its name indicates, five burners (and a side burner). Its indirect cooking and preheat performance prove top-notch in testing, while it performs very well in our evenness test and temperature range test, and it’s easy to move. That said, it’s not as sturdy as other gas grills we’ve tested.
Pizza Ovens
BakerStone Pizza Oven Attachment
Who says you have to drop hundreds on a trendy freestanding pizza oven to make a perfect pie? If you own a grill, all you need is an attachment like this one from BakerStone. Throw it right onto the grates of your grill. The grill provides the heat, and while we didn’t try this grill-compatible model, we did try the BakerStone with a dedicated gas burner and found we got great results.
Plus, it’s still available for the same low price we saw during Amazon Prime Day last month.
Gyber Fremont 29-Inch Wood-Fired Pizza Oven
If you’re looking for a wood-burning pizza oven that doesn’t cost too much, this model could be a good option. It was recently closer to $135, so this isn’t quite the best price but still a nice discount. Its fuel basket was the biggest of those our evaluator tried. It also has room to make a bigger pizza than the other ovens. But the lower price does come at a cost. The oven lacks some of the polish you’ll find on other models, and Hope found the oven door flimsy and tough to rest in the opening; it fell out frequently while he was cooking, which made for a somewhat stressful experience.
Everdure Kiln 2 Burner Propane Pizza Oven
The Everdure Kiln pizza oven is the priciest we evaluated, and it’s got a lot to like. Powered by electricity (plug-in or battery) it simply requires a push-start to rotate your pizza for an even cook. But our tester did note that even though the top of the pizza cooked perfectly, the bottom struggled to cook all the way through in the same amount of time. By preheating the oven on its hottest setting, he managed to turn out a more perfect pie.
Grill Accessories
Jolly Green BBQ Gloves
These heat-resistant silicone gloves are far from fashionable, but you won’t care. They make it a breeze to lift an entire hot brisket or pork shoulder with your hands, which is next to impossible with tongs. They provide an excellent grip and are heat-resistant to over 400° F, and you can put them in the dishwasher.
Grill Gourmet Grill Dog Cedar Hog
If you want to avoid metal bristles when cleaning your grill, this cedar grill paddle could be a good alternative. Our tester found that, after using it, the warm grates carved grooves into the wood, customizing the paddle to his grill. That said, scraping the sides of the grates with the flat edge was difficult, making the process more time-consuming than it would be with a traditional grill brush.
Sumpri Color Coded Extending S'more Sticks
These colorful, extending s’more sticks are both fun and practical. Because they’re color-coded, it’s easy to tell whose is whose. They extend to almost 3 feet, and when you’ve had all the s’mores you can eat, they retract for easy storage.
Cave Tools Kebab Rack and Skewer Set
If you’re a fan of kebabs, skip the single-use wooden or bamboo sticks and invest in a set of reusable metal skewers. Our grill expert likes these from Cave Tools. Unlike round skewers, they keep even, really tender foods (like scallops) from spinning, making it easy to turn each kebab. And the raised racks keep the kebabs just above the cooking grates to prevent scorching, which is particularly helpful for foods like chicken, which takes a while to cook to a safe internal temperature.
This bundle is a great deal for both products, but if you prefer to just buy one or the other, the individual products are both on sale separately as well.
Grill Daddy Grill Brush
The sheer weight of this grill brush helps scrape off food residue and cuts cleaning time way down. Plus, it has a water reservoir that steams on warm grates and loosens that burnt-on gunk. It is on the expensive side, but our grill expert says that with proper care it could even outlast your grill, making it a worthwhile investment. Plus, the cleaning heads (and teeth) are replaceable when they get worn down.
Nordic Ware Naturals Baker's Half Sheet Pans
Our grill expert recommends these sheet pans as the perfect accessory for transporting food to and from the grill and the kitchen. He uses one for raw food and the other to bring everything back once it’s cooked. And while hand-washing is recommended to avoid discoloration, he cleans them in the dishwasher on the sanitize cycle after he’s used them to hold raw meat. He even says the resulting discoloration has not affected their performance, and he’s owned them for over a decade.
Cuisinart CGS-W13 Grill Kit
This kit is recommended by CR’s grilling expert Paul Hope. He says it’s exactly what you want if you’re grilling on the go, like at a park or on a beach. It has all the essential tools and comes in a nice case, which makes it easy to transport. This is the same sale price we saw last season.
Slow 'N Sear Deluxe Charcoal Grill Basket
This basket lets you keep all your lit charcoal on one side of the grill, so you can crisp a chicken leg or sear a steak on the side the coals are on, then move it to the side without the coals to cook through without burning.
This basket was about $90 earlier this month, so the price may drop when the 4th of July sales start.
Meat Thermometers
The Meater+ meat thermometer is one of the most reliable digital thermometers. It’s easy to use, and given its top-notch accuracy, you won’t need guesswork to determine the doneness of brisket and other fleshy delights. It’s shaped like a thick ink pen with dual sensors—one to check the internal temperature and one for ambient temperature—and its size makes it better suited for girthier cuts. The Meater+ transmits temperature readings wirelessly to the companion smartphone app.
ThermoPro’s SmartBT Meat Thermometer TP920 is one of the lower-priced leave-in two-probe wireless thermometers (and the four-probe version is on sale too, if you are cooking bigger pieces of meat). It sends instant temperature readings to your smartphone via Bluetooth, offering excellent response time and accuracy. The easy-to-use app estimates the remaining cooking time for nearly all cuts and varieties of meat based on guidelines from the Department of Agriculture.
Made by one of the most trustworthy thermometer companies in the grilling industry, the ThermoPro TP19H instant-read meat thermometer offers temperature readings with a single stowable probe. There’s a built-in LED and rotation lock for the display, and a magnetic backing allows you to store it on your refrigerator between meals. Perfect for checking meats, this simple thermometer delivers reliably accurate readings within seconds.
