GhostBed Natural Mattresses Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

The mattresses fail to conform to federal flammability regulations

    Recalled GhostBed-branded Natural Mattress
If you own the GhostBed Natural mattress, check its model number as it may need a new cover to meet federal mattress flammability standards.
    Source: CPSC

Innovative Bedding Solutions and SBL have recalled GhostBed Natural mattresses because the beds violate the smoldering-ignition requirements of the federal mattress flammability regulation, posing a fire hazard. A similar recall was recently issued for Sleep Technologies’ Eco Terra Hybrid Latex mattresses.

The regulation requires all mattresses sold in the U.S. to be tested for their ability to resist smoldering, lighting, or catching fire when a series of lit cigarettes are placed on a mattress during the course of safety testing. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

    More on Mattress Recalls

The recall, announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, applies to roughly 1,250 mattresses manufactured between June 2021 and March 2023.

Consumer Reports purchased the GhostBed Natural and evaluated the mattress in spring 2022, within the date range of the CPSC recall. We published the results of our performance tests in June 2022. That particular model has since been removed from our mattress ratings because the manufacturer discontinued the design in 2023.

Details of the GhostBed Natural Mattress Recall

The recall: The recall covers 1,250 GhostBed Natural mattresses in twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, split king, and California king sizes manufactured between June 2021 and March 2023. The mattresses are 12 inches thick and have an ivory quilted top panel and an ivory knit quilted side panel featuring horizontal lines. They are embroidered with a “GhostBed Natural” logo in black and green on the mattress cover. The model number on the recalled mattresses begins with “13GBNAT” or “Natural.” The model number and date of manufacture appear on the white label sewn into the seam of the mattress.

The risk: The mattresses violate the smoldering-ignition requirements of the federal mattress flammability regulation, posing a fire hazard.

Incidents/injuries: No injuries or incidents have yet been reported.

Where and when sold: GhostBed.com, GhostBedNatural.com, and other websites from June 2021 through March 2023. The mattress cost $1,200 to $2,500.

The remedy: Stop using a recalled mattress immediately and contact GhostBed to receive a free cover. Placing the new cover on the mattress will bring it into compliance with federal flammability regulations.

Contact information: GhostBed is contacting all known purchasers directly. You can also contact the company at 877-557-5335 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, by email at GBnatural@ghostbed.com, or via the GhostBed recall page.

To report a defective product: Call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 or go to SaferProducts.gov.
