The Consumer Product Safety Commission today announced the recall of about 250 Honda EU7000is gasoline generators because the fuel filler cap can improperly seal, creating a risk that fuel and/or fuel vapors could escape and pose a fire hazard. Honda has not received any reports of incidents or injuries.

The Honda EU7000is appears in our ratings of inverter generators. Our engineers did not observe any issues with the fuel filler cap on the unit we tested.

Details of the Honda Generator Recall

The recall: About 250 Honda EU7000is inverter generators. The models are rated for 5,500 watts. They are red and gray, and Honda and EU7000is are printed on the side of the generator. The recall applies only to serial numbers EEJD-1364963 through EEJD-1366026. The serial number decal is inside the access door.

The risk: The fuel filler cap can seal improperly, potentially allowing fuel and/or fuel vapors to escape, posing a fire hazard.

Incidents/injuries: Honda has not received any reports of incidents or injuries.

Where and when sold: Amazon.com, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and authorized Honda power equipment dealers nationwide from December 2022 through May 2023 for about $6,000.

The remedy: Stop using the recalled portable generator and contact Honda to schedule an appointment for a free repair. Honda is also contacting known buyers directly to schedule a repair. You can contact American Honda Motor at 888-888-3139 or via this form. Get more details on the recall, including the serial number for recalled models, on the recall notice page.

To report a defective product, call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 or go to SaferProducts.gov.
