Chervon North America has recalled about 63,000 lithium-ion batteries made under the Skil brand name. The batteries can overheat, smoke, and melt, posing fire and burn hazards to users.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the company has received 100 such reports from consumers to date, including 49 reports of property damage and eight reports of injury, including minor burns and/or smoke inhalation.

The recall applies only to 40-volt 5.0Ah (amp-hour) lithium-ion batteries. The batteries were sold individually or bundled with a battery lawn mower and charger.

The words “SKIL” and “PWRCORE 40” are printed on the batteries, though not all batteries with this design are impacted. A full list of recalled batteries and specific date codes is in the CPSC release.
